The base of my neck where the sternocliedomastoid connects to clavicle area hurts to the touch. What could be the cause?
Muscle pain: The most likely cause is a muscle strain. The sternocleidomastoid functions in neck rotation, so a strain can result from overuse of the neck muscles or abnormal neck positioning. Another cause could be infection of the overlying skin and or muscle itself. This would be associated with redness and warmth in the area. Treat initially with ice, anti-inflammatories, rest. Unclear: I'll say that "in front of the clavicle" close to the breastbone is the sternoclavicular joint. The pectoralis major muscle attaches to the "front" of the clavicle, but i've never seen a strain of that muscle hurt in that location. Other small ligaments and muscles attach to the clavicle, but i just can't imagine anything that causes pain only when sitting. ...Read more

Plat yams muscle pul: You probably pulled your platysma muscle. There is normal clicking of the larynx over the spine when you swallow. You can try some Motrin 600 mg three times a day for any inflammation in this area. I have not really seen clicking so bad in my practice that I had to treat it.
