I have noticed that my body is immune to loratadine based antihistamines (doesn't make me tired) but any others do. Does this means tolerance?
My husband is always suffering fron rhinitis and always taking loratadine antihistamine almost everyday. is it safe? is there some other med that will cure his rhinitis?
Yes, there are other: Allergy sufferer only taking loratadine. Loratadine is probably the least effective oral antihistamine. Try cetirizine or fexofenadine instead. Nasal steroid sprays (Flonase, nasacort) are even more effective than oral antihistamines if used consistently (every day) and with proper technique (point outwards towards ear). Are there any non-sedative antihistamines that work like doxylamine? It is the only drug that helps my allergies. Claritin/lortadine do not help.
Yes: Doxylamine has anti-allergy power superior to almost every other antihistamine on the market, with the exception of Diphenhydramine (benadryl), which is also sedating. Other than claritin/loratadine, there are other non-sedating antihistamines such as allergra (fexofenadine).
