Are there any non-sedative antihistamines that work like doxylamine? It is the only drug that helps my allergies. Claritin/lortadine do not help.
Yes: Doxylamine has anti-allergy power superior to almost every other antihistamine on the market, with the exception of Diphenhydramine (benadryl), which is also sedating. Other than claritin/loratadine, there are other non-sedating antihistamines such as allergra (fexofenadine). Newer antihistamines are not anticholinergic. So why are side effects like constipation often reported for claritin for example?
My wife has graves disease (well controlled) and seasonal allergies. Does her condition preclude the use of antihistamines? Claritin 't enough.
No, it doesn't: If the graves disease is well controlled (an autoimmune thyroid disorder), then treatment of other conditions such as allergies is not a problem. Perhaps, i would avoid decongestants such as pseudo Ephedrine that are often added to the antihistamine, because it cause rapid pulse, palpitations.
