Talk w ur doc first: Both citalopram and Mirtazapine are both antidepressants. Mirtazapine has a side effect of making a person sleepy so it sometimes is helpful in this regard. However your doctor may not want you to take two antidepressants so you should discuss this with him or her before you make that decision. ...Read more

I'm on celexa, (citalopram) I have been on it for almost 25 days. One of the side affects is insomnia. I got trazadone, but im still not sleeping as as I used to. What are more ways to sleep well? Help!
See your doctor: If Celexa (citalopram) is causing insomnia almost a month into treatment, discuss with your doctor the idea of a different medication for the same goal. There are many other ssri or snri medications that might be helpful without causing insomnia and then you wouldn't need to add trazadone or another medication for sleep. The chance is very good that you would do well with a different medication. Good luck! ...Read more

Yesterday I started citalopram, if it keeps me from sleeping initially, can I take zolpidem to sleep? How long do initial citalopram side fx last?
Yes you can: It is not unusual to experience a stimulating effect from antidepressants. Sometimes this wears off and sometimes it doesn't. Insomnia associated with the antidepressant is common. A trial of sleeping medicine is reasonable on a short term basis. Also, insomnia can be related to the depression itself. When the depression is treated, the sleeping med can be discontinued. Best wishes! ...Read more

Not Celexa (citalopram).: Have you had a sleep study? It might help clarify what causes your sleep problem. Try sleep hygiene as well. Do not do any work or read in bed, use it only for sleep, do not watch tv in bed, or watch stimulating movies before you go to bed. Try listening to music or a relaxation tape. 2 weeks in to my citalopram 20mg sleep is getting a little better still sweat at night I have a weird feeling in chest like a flutter vibration.
Does trazodone take awhile to start working as a sleeping med. I have taken it for 3 nights 50mg and I have barely slept. Also citalopram 20mg?
Trazoodone: Works right away, but the dose needs to be adjusted into the dosage range that is correct for you. When I prescribe trazodone I give a specific range for the patient to take. I can never predict whether they will respond in the low medium or high dose. By giving them the range where they take enough so that they're sleeping but not so much that they are feeling hung over, I generally get good results. Please contact your prescribing physician and discuss the dose that may be more beneficial for you. ...Read more

I like taking medication at night to lower side-effects. Can I take citalopram a half hour before I go to bed to sleep? Or is it too close to bedtime?
I have a prescription for Celexa, (citalopram) and I do agree that I need it, but I am scared to death of it. Biggest concern is, will I be able to sleep?
Keep a sleep log.: You should express your concerns to your treating doctor. You should also keep a sleep log so you will be able to track the way the medication is influencing your sleep. In addition you may find that taking the medication in the morning as opposed to the evening changes the degree to which the medication impacts your sleep. A log will help you see if it is the medication causing sleeplessness. ...Read more
What's the best depression medicine on the market my dr prescribed me celexa (citalopram) it makes me sleep I don't wanna wake up I've had 3 deaths in one year?
Talk Therapy!: While you search for a better antidepressant, definitely get involved in supportive talk therapy. The losses you've faced and your grief will not be resolved by drugs alone - they may not even be necessary. You need to work through your feelings which may be fairly normal and healthy. But, un-dealt with, they can fester leading to worse symptoms. Be picky, this therapist is one you need to trust. ...Read more
