I have been diagnosed with gad & have tried zoloft, lexapro, (escitalopram) citalopram and remeron all to no avail. Would gabapentin be a good choice?
Probably not: In my experience, I have not seen Gabapentin to be useful in treating anxiety. Makes sure that your diagnosis is correct, and that you have been taking full, therapeutic doses of the medications you have been taking. No problem: Lexapro (escitalopram) and citalopram are essentially the same thing. Most medications are made up of molecules that are mirror images (isomers). Half face left, half face right. In the case of citalopram, they found that only the left facing half was active, . So the separated our all the left facing citalopram and got lexapro (escitalopram). So 10 mg Lexapro (escitalopram) = 20 mg of citalopram. So there should be no problem. ...Read more
Is it safe to switch straight from the anti depressant Citalopram 20mg daily to Escitalopram 10mg daily for depression & anxiety? Thanks.
Depends: You may be better off tapering citalopram as you start escitalopram for depression and anxiety. Some people do well on one but not the other. Discuss plan with prescribing doctor.
