My doctor started me on citalopram 20mg almost 2 weeks ago for severe depression and I still feel exactly the same just less hungry. Any advice?

My doctor started me on citalopram 20mg almost 2 weeks ago for severe depression and I still feel exactly the same just less hungry. Any advice?

Give it more time.: Most people generally require at least 6 to 8 weeks on a particular anti-depressant before they really begin to get the full effects of the drug. If you've only been on it for two weeks, and you're not having any side effects, then I would keep taking it for at least another 4-6 weeks, if not longer. If you still don't see an effect, check w/your doctor about possibly increasing dose or switching. ...Read more

Is it bettet to take citalopram in the morning or at night?

Morning: Most psychiatrists prescribe citalopram (and other ssri's like paroxetine, fluoxetine, s-citalopram, sertraline) in the morning, because ssri's can cause insomnia in many people. However, in some individuals, ssri's can cause tiredness, fatigue, or sleepiness, in which case you could take the citalopram at bedtime. ...Read more

Been prescribed citalopram alongside flupentixol. Are these ok to take together? Should I space out the time I take them?

Been prescribed citalopram alongside flupentixol. Are these ok to take together? Should I space out the time I take them?

OK: It is always best to ask your Doctor as he should know your full medical history and would not prescribe it if there were contra indications. This combination is not unusual, Citalopram for depression/anxiety, Flupentizol for Psychosis. Anytime you add a medication to another there could be more side effects, so you may want to take them at different times until you see how your body/mind reacts ...Read more

Therapist told mom to take citalopram. Had heart angio and stents 2 months ago! Uses plavix (clopidogrel) metaprolol and asprin! Is it ok to use citalopram? Dosage?

Celexa (citalopram): The usual starting dose is 20mg once daily. I feel that collaboration between the cardiologist and the psychiatrist is advisable in this case in view of your mom's cardiac condition as high doses of citalopram have been associated with cardiac rhythm disorders. There is probably no harmful cardiac effects in the low doses, however. ...Read more

See your physician: There are many types of headaches (migraine, tension, cluster) and many reasons for each type. Alternatively, you could have sinus or other issues. It would be helpful for you to keep a log of the frequency, duration, location, and intensity of your headaches, along with associated symptoms, and take it to your physician. Http://www. Nlm. Nih. Is citalopram effective to treat manic depression?

Is citalopram effective to treat manic depression?

Caution: Citalopram can treat depression. The issue is, that -- in patients who have bipolar disorder -- antidepressants like citalopram can increase the risk of switching from a depressed or normal mood to one that is manic. Often a mood stabilizer is added to prevent such a mood switch. So it is important to discuss this issue and how to deal with it in advance with your psychiatrist. ...Read more

I was prescribed citalopram, 20mg daily. But I was taking 80mg of ginkgo biloba for just 3 days, prior to this. When can I safely start citalopram?

Gingko biloba: The elimination half-lives of the most active constituents in gingko (gingkolide a ; b, and bilobalide) are 2-7 hours. This means they would be effectively gone from your system in 24-35 hours. You could probably start your prescription citalopram today, if you want to. Http://www. Mskcc. What are the effects of taking more than the prescribed amount of citalopram?

Depends on amount: Taking more or less of a prescription medicatoin than the doctor has ordered is rarely if ever a good idea. Accidental missed or double doses do occur, though. With citalopram, a single double dose probably will have no noticeable effect. Very high doses of this and other ssris can cause "serotonin syndrome, " however, which includes restlessness, elevated bp, and fever and can be fatal. ...Read more

How long does it take for citalopram (celexa) to get out of your system completely?

How long does it take for citalopram (celexa) to get out of your system completely?

Quickly: The medication itself does not stay in the body for very long time. Probably, in a few days, it is gone. The effect from citalopram might last for a number of weeks after you stopped it. Normally, after people stop antidepressants, nothing happens and they wonder why they took them to begin with. And months or two later depression comes back, but they always blame on something for this new depress. ...Read more

Citalopram: The elimination half-life of citalopram can be from 23-45 hours -- and it takes 5 times this for a medication to be processed from your body. By this calculation, at the most it would be 5 x 45 hours = 225 hours -- amounting to a little over 9 days. ...Read more
