No, you need med: The presence of oligoclonal bands have close to 90-95% predictive rate of clinically definite ms, and if you have even one MRI lesion, this points to an 88% chance of ms in 14 yrs. Vitamin d is important and makes course of disease far better, but will not be the sole wise course. You need to discuss future treatment now, and get onto a potent agent. Neurologists! what is your opinion on the maximum daily dosage of vit D3 to prevent MS where cis confirmed? How often is toxicity witnessed?
My opinion: What is the evidence? Clearly, those with higher levels of oh-vit d-3 who have active ms, have fewer relapses, less progression, and fewer MRI lesions. Also, a military study showing lower risk of ms in folks with higher d levels. Typically, my patients will take about 5000-10000 units of d-3 daily, and we aim for blood levels of 50-60 ng/ml. 49 yr old male never smoke. Microscopic hematuria +1. Cystoscopy found flat red lesion. Nothing else. Biopsy done. What are odds this is primary CIS.
Had lhermittes as CIS (no other symptoms, went after 3mths). Brain & C MRIs clear but oligoclonal bands in CSF. Now 18mths on (high vit D). Am I cured?
Cured? Strong word: Your syndrome unclear. Lhermitte's is a sign seen in spinal cord disease. CIS is often an abbreviation for carcinoma in situ. What "CIS" are you referring to?
