Taking ciprofloxacin for epididymitis. 500mg 2x daily for 10 days. Is this a good medication for this? The side effects are terrifying.

Taking ciprofloxacin for epididymitis. 500mg 2x daily for 10 days. Is this a good medication for this? The side effects are terrifying.

Maybe OK, but...: In men under 35 years old, most epididymitis is due to gonorrhea or chlamydia. Ciprofloxacin is not a good drug for either of them; it won't work at all against chlamydia and some gonorrhea strains are resistant. But if you have non-STD epididymitis, cipro may be the right drug. Despite the list of possible toxicity, most people have no side effects at all. Discuss w/ your doctor. ...Read more

Are you aware of the devastating side effects of floroquinolones, levaquin, cipro, (ciprofloxacin) etc. Why aren't patients warned of this?

Quinolones: I'm not sure what you mean by "the devastating side effects of fluoroquinolones". I have prescribed many, many, many doses myself to children and adolescents and they are overall safe. It is known that they can cause a reversible arthropathy and it is also known, and warned about every time I prescribe it, that they can cause tendonitis and tendon rupture rarely. Your doctor should mention this. ...Read more

Can I smoke while taking ciprofloxacin? Will there be side effects? (i already know smoking in general is bad but I really need the nicotine)

It's OK: Cipro (ciprofloxacin) has a number of side effects, just like any antibiotic does. It's no worse than others. It's been used for a while for a number of different infections and I use it quite frequently and am yet to see a significant side effect from it. As with any antibiotic, I recommend that you always take a probiotic supplement to prevent diarrhea associated with the use of antibiotic. Take an otc one. ...Read more

Ciprofloxacin: The side-effect profile of cipro (ciprofloxacin) or the other fluorinated quinolones should not prevent you from taking it therapeutically. The benefits usually far outweigh the risks. Any medication will have an extensive list of possible side-effects attached, but that does not necessarily mean that they occur frequently. Ciprofloxacin HCl 500mg, are there any life changing side effects to taking this medication, if so, what? I am 52 years old and in the past week started to experience numbness off and on in the crotch area. Dr. Prescribed this medication. I was told it I

This: This is an antibiotic and it is not clear how it could be related to numbness in the crotch, although medications can affect people differently. If it doesn't clear up please have your doctor see you again. If you have any back pain, numbness, weakness, pain down your legs, or loss of bowel or bladder control, you may have a spine condition and would need to be seen as an emergency. ...Read more

Prostate infection: Assuming your doc didn't have lab data demonstrating bacteria & antibiotic resistance (commonly referred to as culture & sensitivity), Cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin is better than Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole at getting into the prostate. All quinolones like Cipro (ciprofloxacin) carry a Black Box warning against tendonitis & tendon rupture, which while rare, is more common in elderly patients. Check out www. Drugs. Doc prescribed Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride for an infection, reading possible side effects. How is this helping me, seems it could cause more issues?

Ask for alternative: Few doctors understand how commonly Cipro (ciprofloxacin) & related drugs cause serious side effects. While most folks do OK with them, a surprisingly high percentage experience debilitating long term toxicity. Thus, I only prescribe them for serious infections when there are no other antibioitcs that would help. Almost always there are safer choices. Ask your doc for a diff. Med. See https://tinyurl.
