I was prescribed cipro (ciprofloxacin) for a uti. Do I take it before or after I eat and how long in between should I wait?

Okay to take: Cipro (ciprofloxacin) can be taken with or without food. But it should not be taken with dairy products (like milk or yogurt) or calcium-fortified juices alone. It should be taken twice a day about 10 to 12 hours apart, unless you are instructed by your doctor to take it differently. ...Read more

I have been told that I have diverticulitis and colitis. I am on oral cipro (ciprofloxacin) and Flagyl for both. How long for the meds to kick in and the diarrheatostop?

Confirm the dx: You first have to make sure that the diagnosis is correct. Diverticular associated colitis is a real entity, but it is less common than ulcerative colitis or crohn's disease. If a gastroenterologist confirmed that diagnosis with colonoscopy and biopsy, then sometimes antibiotics, such as Cipro (ciprofloxacin) and Flagyl may not work to stop the diarrhea. Other treatment options are possible. ...Read more

Years ago I had a severe allergic reaction to cinobac which is in some way related to cipro (ciprofloxacin). Can I safely take cipro (ciprofloxacin)?

No: Cinobac belongs to the quinolones family of drugs, same as cipro (ciprofloxacin). Generally when you're allergic to one drug in the family, you may be allergic to the other drugs in that family since they're often molecularly similar. So you'd be advised not to take Cipro (ciprofloxacin) unless you're tested or monitored for an allergic reaction. ...Read more

Are: Are you having any numbness or tingling? Do you mean weakness in elbow flexion? Did you feel a pop in your elbow or forearm? Where is the pain?

One potential cause of these symptoms that could be related to Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is distal biceps tendon rupture. While it is a rare side effect, tendon ruptures can happen.

The other potential cause is a nerve problem which is less likely to be related to the cipro

either way, an evaluation by an orthopaedic surgeon is recommended. ...Read more

Is there another drug combination for diverticulitis besides Flagel? I am also taking Bactrim due to allergies to Cipro, (ciprofloxacin) Keflex and Penecillin.

Is there another drug combination for diverticulitis besides Flagel? I am also taking Bactrim due to allergies to Cipro, (ciprofloxacin) Keflex and Penecillin.

Antibiotic allergies: You need the help of an ID doctor-since they are experts in antibiotics. First, I would want to 'define' ur allergies further-because sometimes a patient is labeled as 'allergic' & they aren't really allergic at all. That is really important. If ur truly allergic to penicillin, cephalosporins & cipro (ciprofloxacin) which is a fluoroquinolone, ur options are quite limited for oral therapy. Doxycycline might help. ...Read more
