Tib/fib spiral frac 15 yrs ago @ 22yrs old, with Ti rod. Still pain at frac site. Any suggestions?
See ortho specialist: Chronic pain that persists after full healing may be due to nerve damage, scar tissue, or in your situation, a foreign body reaction to the rod. This certainly deserves discussion with your orthopedic surgeon. With careful evaluation, the likely source of pain can be diagnosed. If the rod has a role, consideration might even be given as to whether it is still needed. Good wishes:) ...Read more
Do broken tib/fib heal completely&gain previous strength and reliability to withstand the stress as before?hw long it take?or there's a fault point?
Good ?: For the most part after lots of good therapy in 8-12 weeks depending on the break and how it was repaired most of the fractures are healed and strong. The bones are healed it is the muscles that are still healing in therapy and coming back. The bones should be good as new and a as reliable as before the break in almost all cases, without a "fault point" of weakness . ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Fell down stairs, broke tib/fib, foot hanging backwards, 2 plates & 10 screws, 1 year later plates and screws removed, told i can never run again. Why?
Varies: I would not hesitate to get a follow up appointment and specifically answer that question. Presumably if your plates and screws have been removed your fractures are healed. One of the more common reasons we might tell the patient that is if they have quite a bit of post traumatic arthritis on their follow up X-ray and want to try to protect the joint. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Tibial torsion. 5 years ago at the age of 29 I had bilateral tib/fib derotational osteotomy. IM Nail insertion.. persistent pain do the rods need out?
I have a 32 CM titanium rod in my leg from a bad tib/fib fracture. Just out of pure curiosity, i was wondering how much that rod costs and weighs?
Ask manufacturer: I've personally 'rodded' many tibia fractures through the years and removed many as well. Not exactly sure how much a 10 by 320mm titanium nail weighs but surely less than 16 ounces;#40;u can pick it up easily w/ your index finger to balance it;#41;.As far as cost this is trickier;#40; actual cost in manufacturing not sure... The cost to patient/hospital between 5 and 6 thousand $$ w/ interlocking screws! ...Read more
If screws from tib/fib fracture bother you, when should I get them removed? What is recovery time? Division 1 women's soccer player looking for help!
Once fx is healed: Once the im nail has done the job of allowing your fracture to heal, it actually becomes somewhat superfluous. Surgeons do not like to remove the actual nail unless necessary, as there is a residual increased risk of reinjry/re-fracture (hollow bone). The locking screws, if prominent and bothersome, can be removed on a case by case basis based upon your surgeon's recommendation once the healed. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Fracture tib/fib, 4 years ago; swelling and pain treated 6 weeks bactrim; swelling with no pain recurred; resolved but serosaguinous exudate overlying?
Was there any test : Did the doctor order any x-rays or any other test to determine the cause of the exudate? Any cultures to see what is growing? May have bone infection. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) might not the be effective antibiotics and maybe an IV antibiotic is needed. You should definitely not wait too much longer and ask your doctor to do further evaluation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
