Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy Cidp
Drugs exist: Previous answer on stress reduction which is really important. However, medications exist that can help too. It does depend on which demyelinating problem (ms, cdip), and what type as some treatments are more indicated for certain kinds of ms for example. Many are powerful immune-modulating drugs, and can be by mouth, shot or IV depending. Best to see someone skilled in treatment, such as neurologist. ...Read more
Can antiphospholipid syndrome be found in people with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy?
Is chronic diffuse sensorimotor peripheral neuropathy with predominant external & secondary demyelinative changes a long-term disability?
It can be: Sensorimotor peripheral neuropathies have many types and various causes. Some of them can be disabling, even long term in some cases. A thorough search will have to include blood tests and urine tests. In some cases spinal tab (lumbar puncture) can be necessary. In delineating the diagnosis. ...Read more
Lower Bilateral NCV/EMG Diagnosed Ongoing Denervation; Sensory/Motor Demyelinating Neuropathy & Chronic Radiculapathies - Causes? Any of that Serious?
A friend had chronic demyelinating polyneuropathy (cidp), then got chronic lymphocytic leukemia 2 years later. Is cidp paraneoplastic syndrome sometimes?
Not likely: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculopathy (cidp) is almost always an autoimmune condition incited by some antecedent infection--c. Jejuni, ebv, cmv, or another infection. Antibodies produced against the virus/ bacteria/ pathogen cross-react with the myelin sheath on the nerve roots, first causing guillain-barre (aidp), then later cidp. It's exceedingly rare that cancer could cause this. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Yes but . . . .: Since pan is a vasculitis, it like the other rheumatological illnesses of this type can cause an associated neuropathy. It would be important to rule out other potential causes like medications, vitamin deficiencies, alcohol, infections, hereditary, diabetes, neurological conditions or vascular compromise. Others too. The onset, time course, distribution, and anatomy can help define it. Emg done? ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
No: Autoimmune thyroiditis can occur in young children, adolescents and adults of any age. We see it most often in children who have a family history of that condition. In many children that we have seen, it was mild but symptomatic enough that their mother recognized the condition and sought treatment. Even with mild disease in children the treatment can have profound benefits. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
PSP: Progressive supranuclear palsy: the disorder's long name indicates that the disease begins slowly and continues to get worse (progressive), and causes weakness (palsy) by damaging certain parts of the brain above pea-sized structures called nuclei that control eye movements (supranuclear). It is central; demyelinating conditions occur in the peripheral nervous system. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Brain MRI results: differential includes nonspecific demyelinating process such as MS vasculitis and infectious etilogies. What does this mean?
Meaning of MRI: Differential- this refers to the list of possible diagnoses for the person. The radiologist is not exactly sure what the imaging diagnosis is but what they are saying is that it looks like is ms or ms like things. Ms vasculitis (swelling of the arteries seen in ms). The other thing he/she thinks is possible are infectious etiologies (causes: such as bacterial or viral infection. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Does anyone have really mild chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, making diagnosis uncertain?
Symptomatic treatmen: Hsp is a group of inherited disorders, often insidiously progressive and severe. There are no effective treatments to the underlying damage to the nerve axons so treatment is symptomatic. Baclofen, dantrolene and tinazidine may help with spasticity; oxybutinin with urinary urgency; gabapentin, Pregabalin and duloxetine for neuropathy. Vitamins, d, e and b6 may also help. Physical therapy also. ...Read more
CAUSES? Bilateral lower EMG/NCV Diagnosed Chronic Ongoing Denervation & Demyelinating Neuropathy in LS area (Not diabetic; No Autoimmune; Don't drink)
Answers: Based upon the above, there may be some degree of lumbosacral stenosis, or even multilevel discogenic problems. A cauda equina syndrome might be an answer. But a far better explanation is a peripheral neuropathy of the axonal type, if no structural problem can be found on lumbar imaging. ...Read more
Which of the following are auto-immune conditions? Hypothyroidism Coeliac Disease Endometriosis Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)
Comments: We are learning that the immune system is playing a huge role in many known diseases, and Celiac is certainly auto-immune mediated, and several thyroid disorders are too. Chronic fatigue is often a manifestation of other disorders, and is not considered a separate disease per se. Am unaware of current concepts regarding endometriosis. Should ask OB-GYN specialist. ...Read more
