I had a partial sigmoid colectomy ten months ago, diverticulitis symptoms gone. Still have chronic llq pain. Lifting left leg causes pain.

Can vary!!!: In true diverticulitis; expected symptoms may include chest pain, fever, nausea, vomiting and others. One can be very sick if there is a hole present. R/O IBS: IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. Diverticulitis is inflammation /infection accompanied by fever & tx with Abs. IBS SX can be managed. You need a full exam and blood work. Especially screen for H pylori. Also stool screen x 3 for occult blood /parasite/ &colonoscopy. While you are getting these items checked out you should stick to a gluten free diet. Ie gutbliss. ClostridiumDifficile: 36 year old gentleman finished course of antibiotics for diverticulitis now with 3 days of diarrhea. Please contact the treating physician and discuss your symptoms. After a course of antibiotics Clostridium Difficile is a big concern and can present variably with watery diarrhea and no fever to very high fevers &colitis. Yes: One reason to have surgery for diverticulitis is recurrent infection; another is pain. This is major surgery & not w/o its risks, so don't take it lightly. If pain is mild, why not try high fiber diet? We should ideally get about 20 grams of fiber daily from veggies & fruit; start slowly and ramp up to that amount because high fiber foods also can cause gas. Taking Flagyl and cipro (ciprofloxacin) for diverticulitis. Should I take probiotics at same time? Can I eat nuts and seeds now or after symptoms (pain) goes away?
Probiotics are safe.: Probiotics will not affect your antibiotic treatment for diverticulitis and are safe to take. I would avoid eating anything with seeds or nuts as these may get stuck in a diverticulum and cause a flare of diverticulitis. Misunderstanding?: I think you misunderstood your doctor. I'm sure she knows that diverticulitis cannot cause abnormal urinalysis. If your urine is "clean" i.e. no bacteria, then you don't have a UTI. In any case, UTIs are rare in men your age. Return to your doctor to work this out. Good luck! ...Read more
