Surgery.: I can't tell you specifically what they do at Johns Hopkins, but it is most likely what is recommended everywhere: surgery. The procedure, called tympanomastoidectomy, is performed to remove all the trapped skin from the ear and reconstruct the eardrum. This creates a safe, dry ear. Left untreated, cholesteatoma can cause complications over time. See an ENT surgeon, Hopkins or elsewhere. ...Read more

The herb promoted for cognitive health, withania somnifera, does seem to have some effect in animal models, but has not been well-tested in humans, so the answer is, we don't really know. ...Read more
Not likely to help: Ayurvedic treatment is not likely to have any effect on disc prolapse and cord compression, as the symptoms are due to a part of the disc physically pressing on one's spinal cord or spinal nerves. Some sort of neurosurgical procedure is usually needed to move or remove the part that is compressing the spinal cord. ...Read more
I do not know: It would be best to ask an ayurvedic practitioner what kind of success they have had. I am sure it would help in recovery if surgery were needed. I would suggest acupuncture as I know it can help with back pain. I have seen amazing results with bulging discs and acupuncture. And is it so bad that surgery is needed or still in a bulging position, not fully blown out? ...Read more

How long does it take untreated Cholesteatoma to get to the stage where it erodes through the skull into the brain?
Several years: It really depends on what part of the ear (mastoid) bone the cholesteatoma is in, but you shouldn't wait for that to happen. The growth can do much more damage to the ear structures before it erodes into the brain. That can lead to permanent hearing loss and balance problems for a start. If you have been diagnosed with a cholesteatma it should be removed before any major complications arises. ...Read more

I've been an acute pancreatits patient for about 4yrs now. I would like to know if there is any permanent remedy thru Ayurvedic treatment? The problem is so severe that I had internal bleedin 3times.
Worth trying: Pancreatitis can be a serious & debilitating condition & western medicine has limited approaches for prevention. Ayurvedic treatment may be quite helpful though may not always offer a permanent cure. Classical homeopathy is another treatment that can help- there are many case reports of homeopathy curing recurrent pancreatitis. It would be reasonable to try both Ayurveda & homeopathy. A hole in your head: Best treatment is trepanation. That's drilling a hole in your head to let out the evil humors. Ayurvedic medicine is 3000 yr old. Trepanation is even older, 10000 yr.
