Already seen doc, gave me amoxcillin but no help. Keep coughing up dark mucus everyday, choking feeling at night and tight neck throughout the day.
Time to see doctor: If antibiotic treatment is not helping, and worrisome symptoms persist, a patient needs to be re-evaluated by a doctor. Perhaps there is an abscess in a tonsil or at the back of the throat. Perhaps a different medication is needed. A "choking feeling" and "tight neck throughout the day" sounds bad... which means one should not wait to be re-evaluated. ...Read more
I have a horrible feeling of mucus lodged behind my nose and at top of throat and feels like choking me. How to deal with this?
Nasal mucous: It is normal for the nose to make mucous, but what you are describing sounds excessive. Usually when there is excessive mucous production, there is a reason. Advice 4 night-time mucus drainage w/ respiratory infection? Just want to sleep! Waking up choking. Am asthmatic on 10 day prednis./7 day augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate).
Call doc again: If asthma is the issue, I'd expect prednisone (>20 mg/day) would have helped it. If you have a sinus infection, the above combination works most of the time also. Thus one will need to consider pneumonia which does not respond to Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) and you may well need a chest x-ray and a different antibiotic. Contact your doctor now. ...Read more
