Choking Feeling When I Run Is That Just My Throat Or Is It Asthma
VCD vs. Asthma: Exercise-induced asthma is more common than vocal cord dysfunction but both would have to be considered. Asthma tends to come on during cold/dry weather or may be triggered by allergens such as pollen, grasses or weeds. Vcd may have similar causes. Generally, asthma creates more breathing problems while exhaling, but vcd occurs while inhaling. See your primary care or sports med physican for help. ...Read more

There: There are many things that can cause this sensation. Most of the time it is due to reflux of acid into the throat. You can have symptoms of acid in the throat without the normal esophageal symptoms of indigestion or heartburn. Many times we can't find anything wrong, even after doing an evaluation with scopes. I feel many of these symptoms may be due to muscle tension in the many muscles that control the throat and neck. This tension may cause the pressure sensations. These are exacerbated in those that have an anxious personality. This will not get better with the typical anti-acid remedies. ...Read more

Moving saliva and food from our mouth down to our stomachs requires lots of muscle coordination. If that coordination is off, you can get a sensation like you describe. Time to see doctor: If antibiotic treatment is not helping, and worrisome symptoms persist, a patient needs to be re-evaluated by a doctor.
