VCD vs. asthma: Exercise-induced asthma is more common than vocal cord dysfunction but both would have to be considered. Asthma tends to come on during cold/dry weather or may be triggered by allergens such as pollen, grasses or weeds. Vcd may have similar causes. There : There are many things that can cause this sensation. Most of the time it is due to reflux of acid into the throat. You can have symptoms of acid in the throat without the normal esophageal symptoms of indigestion or heartburn. Many times we can't find anything wrong, even after doing an evaluation with scopes. I feel many of these symptoms may be due to muscle tension in the many muscles that control the throat and neck. This tension may cause the pressure sensations.
