2 possibilities: The are several possibilities. The first is that you could have uvulitis, an infection of the uvula similar to strep throat. For this you could need to be treated with an antibiotic. The second possibility is that the uvula may be getting injured from loud, vigorous snoring. If this continues to occur, then it my be necessary for you to be evaluated for sleep apnea. ...Read more

Management: Particles of food can block airways, and I agree that eating and drinking slowly will help avoid choking. Other suggestions include not talking while eating. If this happens remain calm and drink some water. The lung has many defenses against food particles and there are cells which handle this problem.
