Chlorpheniramine Maleate Overdose
That's an overdose: 32-48 mg is definitely an overdose of chlorpheniramine. The maximum over-the-counter recommended dose is 4 mg every 4-6 hours (24 mg max/day). There are extended-release forms that have higher doses, but they are also meant to last 12 hours or longer. 32-48 mg will likely cause dry mouth, eyes, etc., as well as excessive drowsiness. I don't recommend at all that high a dose.
I can't find any information on the medication chlorpheniramine maleate 4mg on here, any information?
Antihistamine: Chlorpheniramine is a first generation antihistamine. It has been around for a long time and is available in a lot of over the counter medications. While effective for mild allergies it can cause drowsiness in many people. Second generation antihistamines such as Claritin (loratadine) or Allegra (fexofenadine) are often a better choice as they are non-sedating.
Very similar: Both are older antihistamines and very close in their chemical structure. The chlorpheniramine has a chlorine in it, while the pheniramine doesn't. Pheniramine is: dimethyl[3-phenyl-3- (pyridin-2-yl)propyl]amine while chlorpheniramine is 3- (4-chlorophenyl)-n, n-dimethyl- 3-pyridin-2-yl-propan-1-amine.
Dexchloropheniramine maleate tablets have 2mg; chlorpheniramine maleate tablets had 4mg. Dex isomer's more potent? Or ploy to sell more tablets?
Tab difference: Hello ~ dex~etc is a totally different substance to chlorphen~etc base. Each compound in organic chem has completely different properties, by adding free radicals (-H, -OH, -S03, -S04, -NH3, NH4) This is not a scam but dose equivalents. Do not mess with dose advised on label! Take AS DIRECTED! ALWAYS!
Looking for chlorpheniramine maleate IP 4mg tablet in pharmacy. Closest I could find is Avil25 (pherinamine maleate 25mg). Are these 2 substitutes?
Closely related: Both medications are potent antihistamines. Both have similar side effects, mainly sedation and anti-cholinergic (dry mouth, larger pupils, may cause constipation and in older men, difficulty in urination. Dexchlorpheniramine requires a prescription. Its chemical structure is only minimally different from chlorpheniramine.
I regularly take a four-hour antihistamine, chlorpheniramine maleate, because it seems to help with digestion. Are there any issues with extended use?
Yes: First is tolerance, meaning that you would have to increase the dose to get the same effect. Second, side effects are more prone to appear with extended use, and some are serious, hence the need of medical supervision. Third, it isn't meant to help digestion, if you have a problem with digestion / indigestion and not resolved, you need to see your doctor. Good luck
Possible, unlikely: It can cause you to be sweaty, but this would be unlikely.
Yes: They are both antihistamines but the chlorpheniramine is a broad spectrum sedating one and cetirizine is a narrow non-sedating one. They are meant to do the same thing but depends on why you are taking it.
Yes: These two drugs have no cross over and will neither enhance or interfere with each others activity. They are both over the counter, inexpensive and surprisingly effective.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Do not use it for a 23 month old. Ask your pediatrician for something else.

I'm 34 weeks pregnant I would like to know if I could take chlorpheniramine maleate for my sever allergies?
Daughter is 12 weeks old. Have got cold and cough. Doctor has given phenylephrine hydrochloride chlorpheniramine maleate drops. Is this preferable?
No: These medications in a 12 week old can cause more problems than they solve. Studies clearly show no benefit of these medications for infants with colds, and the medications can cause problems with heart rate, poor feeding, irritability among other symptoms. Use a humidifier, nasal saline with bulb syringe to clear secretions and do small but frequent feedings. Monitor wet diapers and temperature.
Headache: It might help depending on what type of headache you have. If you have an allergic headache, the chlorophenamine might help.
Hi, is it safe to take chlorphenamine maleate 3 hours after cetrizine? Or should I get them to hospital as he made mistake with timings?
Safe: And depends on the dosing, hopefully both were within the recommended dosage, side effects might be pronounced a bit. If doing fine, no problem, and skip the next dose if you can do without, but if you have excessive drowsiness or other strange symptom, go to the hospital, good luck
