I got negative chlamydia urine test result. My last urine was passed just 20 minutes before giving urine for test. Conclusive? 2 hours wait needed?

I got negative chlamydia urine test result. My last urine was passed just 20 minutes before giving urine for test. Conclusive? 2 hours wait needed?

Test is reliable: The manufacturer of the most common chlamydia tests recommend waiting 1-2 hour since previous urination, but probably it isn't necessary. Despite the official recommendation, clinical experience suggests it doesn't make a difference. In my STD clinic, we pay no attention to time since last voiding. That said, no test is perfect, and the urine test misses about 10% of chlamydial infections. ...Read more

I had a Chlamydia urine test 3 days after 'potential' exposure at my local clinic. The results are negative. How accurate is this test?

Good if done right: It's a good test if done right. Unlike urine samples for bacterial infection, this test should be done on the first urine to leave the bladder (not a 'clean catch'). If there are symptoms of vaginal/uterine infection, then further testing would be warranted. ...Read more

I read you shouldn't urinate less than 2 hrs before a chlamydia urine test. And get the first drops of urine when you pee. How come??

Clamydia test: I read you shouldn't urinate less than 2 hrs before a chlamydia urine test. And get the first drops of urine when you pee. How come?? ANS: you clean/flush out your urethera with urine (almost always sterile) when you pee and thus may miss what is lurking there. It needs time to reproduce enough that the test will pick it up. But ask lab also. ...Read more

Should I retest? Had Chlamydia URINE test at 12 days POST exposure was negative. (Never had STD and abstinence currently)

Likely not infected: If you are not having symptoms that include burning with urination, discharge from your urethra, fever, chills etc and you had a negative chlamydia test 12 days after your sexual exposure it is unlikely you are infected and need a retest. If you are having any of those symptoms you need to go to your primary care physician to get retested and treated. Always use condoms to protect from STDs. ...Read more

Had Chlamydia URINE test at 12 days POST exposure & was negative. Should I test again? (Never had STD and abstinence currently)

No need to retest: The urine chlamydia test is very accurate any time more than 2-3 days after the last exposure. Your negative result at 12 days is very reliable. ...Read more

I took a urine chlamydia test I've received a message today to tell me they are referring me to pregnancy with chlamydia, I do not no if I am pregnant so how do they? Would the chlamydia test detect pregnancy?

I took a urine chlamydia test I've received a message today to tell me they are referring me to pregnancy with chlamydia, I do not no if I am pregnant so how do they? Would the chlamydia test detect pregnancy?

Hmmm....: Maybe they do urine pregnancy tests on all women getting screened for STD's. Maybe all women screening positive for chlamydia go to the same clinic, labeled the "Pregnant with Chlamydia" clinic. Maybe they're just clairvoyant, or maybe it's a mistake. A chlamydia test by itself does not test for pregnancy. Perhaps the best thing to do is just to call them and ask. ...Read more

How long does it take to results back for a urine chlamydia test?

How long does it take to results back for a urine chlamydia test?

Less than 2 days: The modern chlamydia tests include rapid tests that can give a result after a few minutes. Chlamydia cultures take several days. If the rapid test is done at a lab, the time for the sample to be processed, the test to be run, the results to be sent to the doctor, and for the doctor to find time to review the result... Takes up to a couple of days. ...Read more

My boyfriend got retested for chlamydia. He did a urine test. It came back indeterminate. What does this mean?

My boyfriend got retested for chlamydia. He did a urine test. It came back indeterminate. What does this mean?

Inadequate study: It basically means they cannot say he was positive or negative. This is often because the specimen was not adequate for study and should be repeated. Most tests run an internal control with the specimen to see if the sample is adequate. If the urine was too dilute, or too acidic or basic or had other issues, the results could not be generated. ...Read more

Can my prostatitis be passed to my wife and cause pid? Chlamydia and gonorrhea urine naat test negative.

Can my prostatitis be passed to my wife and cause pid? Chlamydia and gonorrhea urine naat test negative.

Probably not, but...: Prostatitis isn't an STD, and with negative gonorrhea and chlamydia, probably no PID risk for your wife. However, some docs mistakenly diagnose nongonococcal urethritis (an STD) as prostatitis. If you've had abnormal discharge from your penis, it's probably NGU, not prostatitis. If so, and if you had sex w/ your wife after the source of your infection, your wife could be at risk & needs treatment. ...Read more

Does a urine test detect chlamydia and gonnorehea if you are infected?

Urine tests for STD: Yes. But, the doctor has to order this test and it may require a special tube to transport the urine to the lab. If you did not discuss this with your provider you may still be able to have this test added to your labs if you phone them and express your concerns.

But, when you are at the doctor's office please remember to state all of your questions or concerns. ...Read more

Is it possible I had a urine infection and the test didn't detect chlamydia?

Which gives more accurate test results when testing for chlamydia: the urine sample or the cervical swab?

Which gives more accurate test results when testing for chlamydia: the urine sample or the cervical swab?

Both: The PCR technique used for both is very sensitive for even very small amounts of chlamydia. If a urine is obtained, don't do a midstream "clean-catch" like you would to test for a bladder infection. Collect the first part of the urine stream and don't use a wipe first. ...Read more
