Chlamydia Infection Signs
Chlamydia is a curable sexually transmitted infection that is caused by the bacteria chlamydia trachomatis. This bacteria infects mucous membranes of the urethra, vagina, cervix, anus, rectum, eyelid, and throat. Chlamydia may be asymptomatic but some patients experience pain or burning during urination, nausea, fever, vaginal discharge, ...Read more
Week or more: A single dose of this medication is absorbed by the body and distributed to various sites. It remains at detectable levels in the blood for more than a week, which is usually adequate to eliminate active chlamydia. ...Read more
No: Impotence (erectile dysfunction) is pretty common regardless of whether you have an infection or not. I'm not aware of any link between sexually transmitted diseases and ed. However, i can picture a situation where one develops ed after having caught an std. Why? Because you're afraid to catch another one. But aside from that fear, infection doesn't cause ed. Ps always wear a condom to lower risk. ...Read more
Sometimes: There are more resistant strains of chlamydia so not all are sensitive to the fluoroquinones. ...Read more
Does a previous chlamydia infection put me at greater risk of catching it again? Or catching any other STDs? I was treated and am completely clean now
No: A previous chlamydia infection does not make a person more susceptible to future chlamydia infections. However, it is important to ensure that your partner is tested/treated to ensure that reinfection does not occur. In addition, barrier contraception (condoms) can help to prevent STD transmission. ...Read more
I have taken 4 x 250g of azithromycin for chlamydia infection, and had a episode of diarrhoea 6 and 1/2 hours later, is it still effective?
Side Effect: It's likely that the diarrhea you experienced was a side effect of the azithromycin so you should be fine, although I am sorry you had to go through that, that's never fun. If you find you are still experiencing symptoms of the chlamydia then talk to your doctor about other treatment options. ...Read more
Hello,I just took a 1 gram powder from of azithromycin for chlamydia infection but vomited within 30min to an hr of taking should I be perscibed more ?
Get re-treated: Unfortunately, azithromycin can be quite irritating to the stomach and intestines and sometimes causes nausea and vomiting. Research has shown that with vomiting later than 30 minutes, enough drug is retained to cure chlamydia. But up to 30 minutes, re-treatment is necessary. Ask your doctor about getting pills instead of the powder form; or use doxycycline, which requires 7 days treatment. ...Read more
I took single dose of doxycycline (100g) for 3 months (acne). If i had chlamydia infection would this cure it or should I get tested?
I'm taking doxycycline for a possible chlamydia infection, will it still be effective if i drink alcohol during the one-week regimen?
I've taken 2 Azithromycin 500mg tablets for my diagnosed Chlamydia infection. How long do I have to wait until it's safe to have sex again?
A week, usually: Standard advice is to wait a week, and until any synmptoms have completely cleared up -- which also takes about a week. For sure no sex with new partners before then. However, if you and your partner have both been treated for chlamydia and your symptoms are improving, sex together before a week probably woudln't hurt anything. All recent partners need treatment, of course. ...Read more
My friend was prescribed Zithromax for suspected Chlamydia infection and he was then prescribed another gram when treatment failed. Is this normal?
Hard to say: One of the primary reasons for treatment failure is the wrong diagnosis which led to ineffective treatment. You say "suspected"chlamydia".This agent shares symptoms with other germs, and retreating the wrong condition with an otherwise effective med is odd. I would want to confirm the diagnosis. Another possibility is continued exposure to an untreated partner with re-infection. ...Read more
What treatment is recommended if two rounds of Azythromycin (1g) and 14-days of Doxycycline haven't cleared up vaginal Chlamydia infection?
Partner checked?: It would seem highly unlikely that the infection is not cured if you've gone through this therapy. This raises the possibility that you got reinfected??? or it is NOT just Chlamydia - perhaps something that hasn't yet been diagnosed (like Mycoplasma). Or the germ is resistant-but that's the least probable of the 3. Hopefully an Infectious Diseases specialist can help you, if you're not seeing one. ...Read more
