Is it normal to have chills n fever along with dizziness after minor surgery like draining an abcess?
Bacteremia: After draining an abscess sometimes the bacteria that was in the abscess gets into the blood stream and causes symptoms such as what you describe. Hopefully you are on some antibiotics. Good idea: I hear this from many patients after a variety of abdominal operations under general anesthesia. Seems to be self limiting, and may be due to the anesthesia and stress of surgery or some combination. If your running a fever, or even feel something is "not right", call your surgeon to find out for sure. Could also be a sign of infection. They'll take the call. Prepare + Breathe: Everybody having surgery is likely to be a bit nervous. I have concern about someone who isn't a little worried. To stay calm, carefully review in advance your instructions. Should you stop eating/drinking? What about medications? Where do you need to arrive? When? Any other directions? Help yourself by doing these things.
