Maybe: Abscesses are skin infections and can cause symptoms such as fevers and chills. Once an abscess is drained, generally the infection rapidly resolves and all symptoms, including fever and chills, dissipate. I would not expect fever to persist longer than 24 hours after abscess drainage. You should be re-evaluated by your physician if persistent fever or any other concerns. ...Read more

Good idea: I hear this from many patients after a variety of abdominal operations under general anesthesia. Seems to be self limiting, and may be due to the anesthesia and stress of surgery or some combination. If your running a fever, or even feel something is "not right", call your surgeon to find out for sure. Could also be a sign of infection. They'll take the call.
