Can you take 5 mg of Vicodin and 25 mg of Benadryl together? I weigh 113 pounds and I'm a female. I have an ovarian cyst and I hardly ever take pain medications so I'm a little afraid and my allergies are killing me.

Nasal steroid?: Whether you can take these medications depend greatly on their adverse effects. Both Benadryl and Vicodin have sedating effect and Vicodin may cause abdominal upset for some people. However if the pain is bad, you may have little choice. If you are referring to nasal congestion, a nasal steroid will likely work better than an antihistamine. ...Read more

Is it possible that I give my two-year-old children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for seasonal allergies?

Yes: Yes, you can give your 2 year old child Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for allergy symptoms. Its onset is fast within 15-60 minutes and it lasts for about 4-6 hours. Otc zyrtec's onset is also fast and it lasts for 24 hours. Keep in mind that those medications can control mild allergy symptoms. Took 2tsp of children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for my allergies, but forgot that I had 3 glasses of 5% dessert wine 3 hours earlier. Should I worry?

Not necesarily: I wouldn't drive a car or operate tools or machinery for another 6-8 hours, but this exposure would just make someone groggy. The time needed to metabolize the alcohol suggests at least half was gone before the medicine was taken, and the overlap is not worrisome. ...Read more

My husband and I accidentally gave our 4 yr old son, who weighs 42lbs, a double dose of childrens benadryl (diphenhydramine) for his allergies (chewable tablets 12.5mg)?

?? no numbers??: The only way for me to comment on the dose is if you list what you gave. Two 12.5 mg tabs in a 42 lb kid might make him groggy but shouldn't hurt in the long run. Four tabs would put him to sleep and he'd be out for a few hours. Luckily the med clears the body in 4-8 hours. ...Read more

Is it ok to give my 5 year old children's benadryl and childrens mucinex cough? She has bad allergies which makes her cough mostly at night.

MGT: I would not advise giving these medications to your child based on the information provided.
I would suggest an over the counter anti histamine such as Claritin instead which is less sedating.
The underlying cause of her nighttime cough should be further evaluated by her PCP. Does she have a history of asthma? Is there smoke exposure? ...Read more

My 8 year old son is having seasonal allergies. I am giving him childrens Claritin but was wondering if he can also have childrens Benadryl (diphenhydramine)?

Other better options: Even certain "non-sedating" antihistamines like zyrtec have been found to impair short term memory and have negative effects on school performance. Rather than increase the likelihood of your 8 year old son having side effects, consider adding a topical nasal steroid spray like Flonase or a complimentary medication like singulair (montelukast). Alternatively, consider allergy testing to identify the triggers. ...Read more
