Is it okay to stagger doses of tylenol/advil for feverish child (5 yrs old)?

Is it okay to stagger doses of tylenol/advil for feverish child (5 yrs old)?

Why ever ???: Fever is a normal body response that increases metabolism, heart rate & breathing to fight infection. It is a sign not the problem. I find it abusive to wake a child for fever meds or constantly be giving something in the false hope that it does something good. Is it okay to mix childrens allegra & childrens tylenol (acetaminophen) to treat cold/pains on a 2 year old?

Is it okay to mix childrens allegra & childrens tylenol (acetaminophen) to treat cold/pains on a 2 year old?

Yes but.....: Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Allegra are ok together but Allegra is not useful for "colds" as it won't control the runny, stuffy nose unless due to an allergy to inhalants (e.g. Dust mite, pollen, pet dander). Current american academy of pediatrics recommendations are use tylenol (acetaminophen) for fever, aches but no antihistamines or decongestants for nasal symptoms as they are largely ineffective and can have side-effects. ...Read more

Is it safe to use children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) with hylands cold n cough for kids? My daughter is 2.

Is it safe to use children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) with hylands cold n cough for kids? My daughter is 2.

No: Cough & cold medications are not recommended for children under 4 years. They do not make colds better, shorten how long a child is sick, or prevent a child from worsening, & they can be dangerous. Coughing during the day helps your child keep her airway clear. If she cannot sleep at night, try a cool mist humidifier, a teaspoon of honey or saltwater nose drops. Good info here: kidshealth.org. ...Read more

How much children's Advil can I give my 23 month old son? He is 28 pounds. Infant Advil and tylenol (acetaminophen) are not working

How much children's Advil can I give my 23 month old son? He is 28 pounds. Infant Advil and tylenol (acetaminophen) are not working

Why not working?: I hope you are using the pain/fever reducers for "comfort care" and not chasing numbers on the thermometer. Infant advil (ibuprofen) has the same ingredient as childrens only it is more concentrated. A maximum dose is: infant advil: 2.5ml every 8 hrs versus children's advil 5ml every 8 hrs. See your doctor if you find your son is not improving over time. ...Read more

Yes.: You can use either to treat the fever, but only if it is high. Do not treat the fever if it is below 101 and your child is feeling okay. Is tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin better for older adults for the flu?
