Child Had 2 Ct Scans
I had 2 cystoscopies, 2 ultrasounds and 2 CT scans in sept. 2015 , and 3 more US and 2 cytologies last month. Is this testing sufficient for hemturia?
Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! the image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more
Do small nodes seen ct scan near colon warrant ct scan follow up after colonscopy found 'mild colitis' ? This would be 5th ct scan in 6 yrs.
Whats better for diagnosing pancreatic cancer.... Ct scan or mri? I've had normal ultrasound and CT scan with contrast. Still worried.
Prev thy cancer had WB scan 2 yrs ago showing faint uptake in liver. Had CT yesterday showing "something" on liver. Need repeat CT. Related?
I can't tell you: what the "something" is, but the faint liver uptake on the WBC scan was probably normal, so it is likely that the two are unrelated. ...Read more
Had clear ab CT scan. 6 weeks later had ab u/s w/ probable liver hemangioma dx. Why wld it not have been seen on CT scan ?
My ob asked for 5 ultrasounds
Anomaly scan level 2
Colour Doppler scan
Are they necessary can they be harmful?
No: There has been no convincing evidence that ultrasounds are harmful to a developing fetus. If your OB thinks they are necessary, it is a good idea to follow their advice. Hope this helps! ...Read more
My sister had a uppper rt lung lobectomy last year ...Has non small cell adeonocarcinoma....Ct scans and pet scans every 3 months...Past 2 recent CT scans plus pet scan are showing an increased pleural based nodular density in the rt lower lobe anteriorly
Could be recurrence: This needs to be worked up - it could be recurrent cancer, or possibly reactive, especially if radiation therapy was performed. See the oncologist and ask for specifics about this finding. Was the pet scan positive in the same area? If so, that raises the concern, but it still could be reactive. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Diagnosed- malignant melanoma 5/2017 Diagnosed - treated for anal cancer 5/2016. Pet scan done in March '16. If MM has spread, wouldn't PET scan show?
PET scan is a good t: PET scan is a good test to detect metastatic cancer. In fact it is our best imaging test to catch metastases early. Yet it has some limitations in that it can not show microscopic tumors/ small # of cells in the body...it only shows tumors that are bigger than half a centimeter (>5 mm). That is why this test has to be repeated every 3 to 4 months when there is a risk for the tumor to come back. ...Read more
Whats better for diagnosing pancreatic cancer? Ct scan or mri? 34yr male. I've had normal ultrasound and CT scan with contrast. Still worried.
CT, ERCP, MRCP: Thin-slice (3 mm) ct abdomen yields fine detail of pancreatic structures... Blood tests including tumor markers: ca-19-9, ca-15-3, and cea can alert the clinician for ca. Also, ERCP w/ ductal brushings (though its endoscopy) can search for malignancy. Finally, mrcp may add to the clinical picture, but 64-bit ct is slowly encroaching on the former's superiority. ...Read more

Had l.Lower.Q ache on/off for 2 weeks - us showed poss mass. Now want CT scan.Colonos 2 yrs ago w/diverticulosis.Scared.Cancer?Divert?Hernia?(female)
Many possibilities: Its normal to be scared when an ultasound shows a possible mass and further imaging is needed. It is important to get the ct in order to help the doctor to make a diagnosis. Often times the ct scan shows there is no finding to support the ultrasound findings. But it is important to get the study. No sense in speculating the possibilities get the studies and follow up with your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
After cancer surgery i had 2 clear pet scans.Nw after 5 yrs the pet scan is abnormal. Possible causes?
Not enough info...: It is possible to have an abnormal scan at 5 years but I do not know enough about your history and what was abnormal in this scan. There are many sources of false positive on pet scan but without seeing your images or reports and without your exact history it is difficult to determine what the status is. ...Read more
Can MRI scan be used instead of CT scan to assess the bronciectasis b4 a possible surgery, ?Or as substitute to CT scan 2 see progress?
Had CT scan b4
CT only: It is obvious that you wish to avoid ionizing radiation. However MRI is difficiult in imaging lungs of low density tissue, air-tissue interfaces causing artifacts, and respiratory, cardiac, and vascular motions. These are technicalities without any control. Ct is by far the choice for imaging bronchiectasis. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
A recent CT head scan (no contrast) showed calcified carotid siphons, should I have further tests done?
Yes: If you have intracranial calcifIc arterial disease, you may also have extracranial calcific arterial disease. A carotid ultrasound would be a good idea. Also a cardiovascular calcium scan. If your brain arteries are looking bad, your heart arteries could also. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Positive d dimer 400 first time, cat scan was inconclusive. Second d dimer was 800, 2nd cat scan inconclusive as well. And wbc 14,000. ?
Confusing: Many conditions can cause a false positive D-Dimer. Even having a blood test draw a couple days before. The better value of a D-Dimer is when it is negative. You can nearly always (but not 100%) know there is not a clot. You need the input of a knowledgable Dr. Do you have other risks of clots? Any other symptoms? Sometimes the best treatment is watchful waiting to see if something changes. ...Read more
First ct scan diverticulitis thought he had fistula. Second Ct scan radiologist said no fistula bowel thickening maybe sigmoid abscess ct be wrong?
Not necessarily: The interpretation of the same ct scan can be changed according to the clinical picture. The clinical picture has support the ct scan and until it would the reading of the ct scan can change. So, it is a fluid situation , it is not rigid. Reading of the ct has to match the clinical condition of the person. I hope this helps. ...Read more
Endocrine issues + fatigue. Clear CT scan in Apr15. Symptoms persisted CT scan in Feb 16 clear. Could CT be missing SCLC. Is repeat scan necessary?
By SCLC, I presume: you mean small cell lung cancer...a type of lung cancer that is aggressive and is a neuroendocrine tumor which can produce ectopic hormones. But it certainly wouldn't be the first thing you would think of if you have "endocrine issues." The thyroid, pituitary, adrenal glands need full evaluation as well as other work-up. If lung CT "clear" would not pursue SCLC as cause. Best wishes:) ...Read more
