Primary Dr can check: On the west coast, the western black-legged tick can bite humans, and can cause lyme disease, after feeding for 24-48 hours. A lab can test such a tick for lyme disease bacteria. The doctor may treat with antibiotics if the lab finds lyme bacteria, if the bite site has a bull's-eye rash, or if there are other worries... Such as a lot of irritation and maybe a skin infection at the bite site. ...Read more

Your son's history of "bad acne" would support finding a prominent lymph node in this area however additional features are needed to confirm a benign nature eg. Consistency, mobility. See your doctor for definitive assessment & to evaluate adequacy of your son's present acne regimen ...Read more

Other considerations are cysts, sterile abscess or lipoma, benign or malignant tumors can also present like this. A doctor should be able to make that distinction by proper physical exam and order further testing as needed. ...Read more

Sounds ok: The back of the neck would be an unusual place to find a lymph node. Depending on depth, it's possible that what you're feeling is a part of your paraspinal musculature and may be tender due to a "knot" or local muscle spasm. If a lymph node though, nodes ...Read more
