Chicken Pox Is Herpes
No, but related: They are related but different. There are several human herpes viruses. All cause an initial infection, then lie dormant and may recur later. Herpes simplex viruses (HSV) types 1 and 2 cause oral and genital herpes. Chickenpox and shingles (herpes zoster) are caused by the same herpes virus, named varicella zoster virus (VZV), different than HSV. Shingles is a localized recurrence of chickenpox. ...Read more

The first time someone is infected with this virus, usually in childhood, he or she will develop an itchy rash consisting of vesicles or fluid filled, reddened blisters. Chickenpox is highly contagious and spread via infected individuals. We now have an effective ...Read more
Chicken pox shingles: There are at least 8 herpes viruses that all share a very similar genetic makeup. Varicella zoster is the chicken pox virus that affects children. It may remain dormant for years then reappear in the elderly or earlier if your immune system is compromised. Once reactivated it can cause "shingles." it is then referred to as herpes zoster. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I've had chicken pox & consistently have facial herpes breakouts. Do the breakouts have an effect either + or - on contracting shingles in the future?
VZV HSV HerpesZoster: Too many viruses and bad naming are part of the problem here. Hsv=herpes simplex virus. This shows up as herpes on the lips or genital areas. Vzv=varicella zoster virus. This virus causes chicken pox and shingles. Shingles is also called herpes zoster, but is not hsv herpes confusing, huh? Bottom line is you probably have hsv herpes on your face which does not affect your risk of shingles. ...Read more
Should i get a shingles shot? 69 years old, had chicken pox, exposed to genital herpes apparently the lowest cost shingles shot i can get is $75, which for a senior on a fixed income is a lot of money.
However, i had chicken pox as a child; i've never
I : I would recommend that it is beneficial to get shingles vaccine for you. The risk of you getting shingles is as average as any person of your age group. Genital herpes does not have any role in incidence of shingles. But the after effects of shingles (postherpetic neuralgia), meaning pain and burning sensation in the area where the person had the rash from shingles even after the rash disappears in some individuals is very uncomfortable and this seems to increase with age. The benefit from vaccine decreases as you delay the vaccine after 70 yrs. The vaccine has shown that it decreases the intensity of shingles episode and incidence and intensity of post herpetic neuralgia. If you sum the cost of the doctor visits and medications needed to treat post herpetic neuralgia, the cost of shingles vaccine is definitely lower. I hope this is helpful. I wish you the very best. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

If I never had chicken pox, can I get one by coming in contact with someone who developed shingles (herpes) and previously had chicken pox?
Next day after kissing my boyfriend got herpes on his lip. I had chicken-pox 2 months ago. Does it protect me? Which medicine should I take?
Misinformed?: 75% of americans have herpes one. It is more likely that you already have been exposed than that this scenario you describe has put you at risk. If you are negative for oral herpes then there is risk here and there is no medication to prevent infection. Herpes infection is caused by virus and skin to skin contact. There is no correlation between sores and infectivity. ...Read more
After how many days after getting infected by virus of herpes zoster or chicken pox can a man fall ill?
Is it possible to test positive on IgG herpes hsv 2 test and not have it?(Is it possible chicken pox virus/shingles could also cause positive result?)
False positive: IgG tests are possible. There can be some cross-reactivity with other viral antibodies. The definitive diagnosis of specific viruses including HSV 1, 2 and HIV is a western blot test. This also tests for antibody protein but to the specific virus. I believe getting an HSV2 western blot should be your next step. Good wishes:) ...Read more
