Most commercially available chewing gum contains a sugary sweetener that breaks down into acid which can contribute to tooth decay and gum disease. Sugar-free chewing gum is better, but the best option is chewing gum with xylitol, a naturally-occuring wood sugar that bacteria can't digest. This not only stimulates salivary flow to neutralize acids but it also ...Read more
I recently performed oral and two days later and I have gum boils and a sore throat. I'm hoping it's just a cold?
Get checked: In the absence of any other cold symptoms such as cough, congestion, runny nose, sneezing, headache, fever, etc., I would be very concerned about std, which you absolutely can get in your mouth after oral sex. You should get tested, and use a dental dam or other barrier in the future. ...Read more
Yep: Syphillis is one std that causes sores. They are called chancres. They can be located anywhere in the mouth. Go see a doctor and a round of antibiotics could clear up the whole problem. Just don't have any physical contact with anyone until you are cleared. Not a nice "gift" to give to others. ...Read more
Sore throat: A hole in the gum is suggestive of a primary problem with the teeth. I could represent a cavity of the tooth with erosion of bone and early abscess formation. It could be from a tooth socket that is communicating with the sinuses. Either way, you really need to see a dentist and possibly and ENT if there is involvement of the upper or lower jaw bone and possibly sinuses if in the upper jaw. ...Read more

Sometime I find blood in my phlegm, I'm sure it's not from my gums. I don't cough or have sore throat, I don't smoke either. Should I be worry?
I have sore throat on one side, and sore gum and cheek on the same side. My mouth has also been sore all over. Also seem to have clear dots on tongue.
Probably viral: This is probably a viral infection. When a virus infects it can invade multiple types of muscosal cells...gingiva, esophageal, tonsillar etc. Don't panic too much about the dots you see...the tongue is very vascular, colonized with every bacteria and fungus and has odd type cells if you look close enough. When it gets inflamed it can take quite abnormal and serious. Rest, fluids and time now. ...Read more

See dentist then MD:
If your gums are in pain, you may want to see a dentist first to evaluate your teeth for a source of infection.

Thrush: A sore throat with white spots and sores on your gums sounds like thrush. Blood tests can rule out some but not all STDs. A specific test is necessary to rulr out chlamydia and gonorrhea. The other possibility is a viral infection. You need to discuss these possibilities with the person who you have been seeing to know which is going on in your case. Hope this helps. ...Read more
Doctor can check: Sore throat symptoms can be from cold viruses, strep throat, allergies, etc... It can be difficult to tell what the cause is. If throat symptoms only last 1-2 days, it is more likely allergies or irritation. Doctors have 5-minute tests for strep, so a primary care doctor can diagnose strep and start antibiotics "right away". Strep throat treatment is often with amoxicillin. ...Read more
