The finding: Described as alveolar infiltrates can be due to early or mild or healing pneumonia. Blood or fluid in lungs can give this appearance also. Please have your doctor match the x-ray findings with your history and symptoms. May need ct scan of chest. ...Read more

I had a chest X-ray done as a follow up they found a 1.5 inch "density" in the original X-ray taken in August. It hasn't changed but what could it be?

Many things...: A nodule on X-ray is non-specific. Density means a certain area of the lung has either more fluid or tissue than air, so this could represent an infection, scarring from prior infection, a lymph node, or (worst scenario) a tumor or cancer (more likely if u r a smoker or hang around air pollution workplace). Calcified node: Usually calcification in hilum on chest xray represent a calcified lymph node related to old non active infection such as histoplasmosis or tuberculosis.
