Chest Soreness From Coughing
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
My chest pain is more of a sore feeling that makes it hard to cough or deep breath. Should I still be concerned?
Pain: Your pain sounds musculoskeletal but from out here there's no way to be sure
Worried about unproductive chest cough, chest & soreness in muscle just below middle of ribcage. Symptoms began after a 30 min anaerobic run on Fri.
Can be a stitch: This can be a stitich in the muscle about and below the rib cage. You can try ice or heat to the are. Consider it a pulled muscle
Is it normal to have chest pain and soreness after asthma attacks and coughing? My cough is productive and persistent. I am fatigued without fever.
Yes: If the cough has been severe and frequent, you may end up with chest wall pain. It appears that you are not over your asthma attack yet and you should talk to your doctor regarding adjusting your asthma treatment. Rarely rupture of air sacs (lung collapse) may cause similar symptoms.See 2 more doctor answers
Had slight blood in the pleghm every morning for 1 week had a sore throath mild cough light chest pain taking antibiotic for 3 days smoke 1 pck a week?
Stop smoking to heal: Smoke causes inflammation in the bronchial tubes, increasing phlegm production. You apparently are taking an antibiotic for infected sputum. Smoking while taking the antibiotic promotes ongoing inflammation that limits the antibiotic's ability to kill bacteria.. The persistent cough, chest pain and blood means your bronchitis is getting worse. Stop smoking to let the bronchi heal.
Unlikely: For someone your age who is otherwise healthy, the symptom complex you describe is most likely a cold. The chest pain can come from irritation of the lining around the lung inside the chest. This condition is usually self limited, so if it doesn't get better on its own soon, you should go see your doctor.See 1 more doctor answer
I am a type 1 diabetic, I came down with some symtpoms about a week ago, sore throat, losing voice, cough, slight chest pain when coughing. Help!?
Probably benign: Chances are it's probably just an upper respiratory infection or laryngitis or viral infection or cold. Drink lots of fluid, rest up. If symptoms don't improve, please see your doctor for an evaluation and possibly antibiotics. If the chest pain gets worst or if you have trouble breathing, see your doctor right away.See 2 more doctor answers
So lately I've had this cough off and on that won't go away I have had wheezing sometimes chest pain upper back pain sore rib sometimes is it cancer?
Unlikely: At your age it is unlikely but not impossible. Even if it is not cancer, you could have some other medical issue that may require therapy. I would suggest you visit your doc to be checked. Best to you.
Flu: You need to see a doctor. Do not delay.
Have chest pain like pressure, dry cough, dry sore throat, picked it up in tokyo. Should I take the amoxacillin I have with me?
No: You have no evidence that you have a bacterial infection going on at this time. I would be interested to know if you have swelling in your legs and shortness of breath. I wonder if you may have another process like a embolism in your lung. You need to be seen and evaluated prior to taking antibioticsSee 1 more doctor answer
I had a sore throat and cough when I throw my phlegm I saw a red on my phlegm is that because I have sore throat? But I don't have chest pain
Red stuff?: If you coughed hard enough you could break a small blood vessel and that would be the answer. As long as it disappears, fine! If it persists go see your doc for an evaluation.
I've contracted a cold from a 8 month baby, I've now got a bad sore throat, chest pain and bad breathing and when ever I cough I taste blood.
Blood with ST, cold: It appears you have caught a cold, so treat with fluids and Tylenol for pain, fever. OTC meds for cold as needed, throat lozenges. Also, cold fluids for the broken throat capillary suspected from strong coughing. If blood and coughing persist, see an MD for further investigation or call for virtual appt with internist thru health tap.
Day 5 of being sick. Symptoms changed from sore throat to sinus pain to dry cough causing chest pain. What could it be and what should I do??
Viral process: Viruses are known to trigger bronchospasm. Given the providing symptoms, I suspect that this is a viral syndrome. If the cough is of significant discomfort and frequency, you could have your physician provide you with an albuterol inhaler or a steroid/long-acting bronchodilator. Generally it will settle down over a few days on its own, providing you don't have any underlying probs. Take care.
I have low iron, I also have a sore throat, have chest pain and occasional shoulder blade pain either In between or under shoulder blade and a cough?
Unrelated problems: Take Iron supplement. Other problems need general care.
Sharp pains in chest pain in shoulder blade down to bottom ribs, cough, spit up is almost yellow, sore to breathe pain gets worse with deep breath?
Pleurisy: Your symptoms suggest pleurisy. This can be caused by either a virus or by bacteria. You need to see your doctor for appropriate evaluation which may include a chest x-ray and/or blood work. If bacterial, antibiotics are advised, In either case, anti-inflammatory drugs can provide great relief. Warm regards.
