Heartburn, a symptom of gastro-esophageal reflux (gerd), can occasionally result in spasm of the lower part of the esophagus. This is perceived in your brain as left sided chest, shoulder, and arm pain. It is a great mimic to cardiac pain. Yes: The presence of chest pain with movement most often indicates a muscular cause. Usually cardiac pain is worse with exertion, and lung related causes of chest pain are worse with breathing.
