I have asthma. Am having moderate sharp chest pain when inhaling, coughing, and shortness of breath. Did inhaler. Is there anything else I should do?

Urgent care needed: Your symptoms could be serious. Sharp chest pain likely indicates an irritation of the inside of your chest/surface of the lung. While there are some benign causes, the shortness of breath associated with it means you need a chest x-ray at at minimum, TODAY. Unlikely: Though a chest xray is not the most reliable test for a collapsed lung (pneumothorax) it is pretty good. If there is a viral pneumonia on xray that could cause your symptoms. ...Read more

I have had several patients who were not diagnosed with asthma in childhood, but are symptomatic as adults.
