Chest pain/back pain: Pain in the chest with movement or coughing can sometimes be pleurisy -inflammation of the lining of the chest. Doesn't sound cardiac. You can try an antiinflammatory medication to see if it helps - if you develop a fever it could be the signs of an early pneumonia and chest pain associated with exertion is worrisome for cardiac issues and should be evaluated by a doctor. ...Read more

Prob NT Coronary Dis: At 17 unlikely Cor Dis leading Hrt Atak. Could be Gas in splenic flexure, could be Pericarditis. In pericar U feel better sit up than lie down. Both cause pain w breathng. Gas Lft Upper quad Abd(splen flex) causes pain in Lft shoulder. Pain can also be a lft pleural catch: lung lining caught betw ribs. Pericard can come after viral illness +other poss. See doc: Sounds likely expected- you can cause various intercostal muscle tares, rib "bruising", fractures etc some of which may not readily show up on radiologic studies. As it is primarily with movement it is most likely musculoskeletal in origin, an so will improve with time and anti inflammatory meds like motrin, but you should see your doc to be safe.There are always oddities that doc may need to see. ...Read more

Was he doing anything athletic or traumatic within the last week? Is there a bruise or discoloration at the site? Has this ever happened before?
