I have daily chest pain that last all day long. If I don't eat, if I do eat. It doesn't matter. Is this nornal for gerd?

Possible: Does not sound like cardiac pain. Not unusual for gerd symptoms to act like this. An easy test is to simply take an over the counter medication for gerd like prilosec. If symptoms improve that may be it. I would still recommend you also see a physician to further evaluate your symptoms to make sure a more serious problem is not causing your problems. ...Read more

I often experience chest pain right in the middle of my chest. What could this be? The chest pain does lasts a few seconds and is quite sharp. It happens every few days, sometimes more than once a day. I am a 26 year old female and I am not overweight and

There: There are many different reasons why you might be experiencing chest pains. One of the most worrisome reasons patients experience chest pains is that they have a blockage in one or more of their heart arteries. Atherosclerosis is a disease of the blood vessel where plaque or fatty deposits grow inside the blood vessels and restrict blood flow to the heart muscle. This typically creates a presure or burning or tightness in the chest area which could radiate to the left shoulder or arm, neck, or jaw. Often it worsens with exertion and improves with rest. The most common risk factors leading to these blockages include smoking, diabetes, a close family member with this disease, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure.

If you are 26, of normal weight, a non-smoker, without diabetes or high cholesterol and your parents do not have coronary artery disease, it is quite unlikely that you have this problem.

Much more likely this is due to some other reason. Stress can cause many symptoms in our bodies such as head aches, upset stomach, and anxious feelings. Stress can also cause chest pains.

If your symptoms continue or worsen, I would urge you to make contact with your doctor for an appointment to discuss this further. ...Read more

Chest: Chest pain and palpitations (rapid heart rate) are definitely things to be concerned about. You may be dealing with a heart arrythmia (irregular rhythm), thyroid disorder, anxiety or panic disorder etc. The pain is worrisome because it could be a sign of cardiac ischemia, which means you are not getting enough oxygen to your heart. On the other hand, it could be something as simple as muscle pain. Regardless, the only way to find out is by having a complete medical evaluation by your primary care provider. Lastly, if the pain becomes intense, and/or you experience shortness of breath and your heart racing, present to the er.

12 year old with intermittent chest pain, feels like his heart is hurting. Lasting for 20-30 seconds about 6-10 times per day for the last two days.

Wouldn't be heart: The story fits more with what's behind the heart. When we swallow our own spit we open the entrance to the stomach. If it is processing food, the squeeze will push stomach acid up into the lower esophagus. For some this will cause transient pain. Tums (calcium carbonate) can helps some, but avoiding caffeine & not laying down for an hour after eating, can help it fade sooner. ...Read more
