Reactive airways: The cigarette smoke likely irritated your airways and caused them to constrict. The constriction is likely why you had difficulty breathing. You may be exposed to other environmental factors that also bother your lungs and can consider seeing an allergist for both pulmonary function tests and/or allergy tests. Probably not a good idea to smoke in the future. Good luck. ...Read more

Took 1 0.5 lorazepam a day for a whole year quit cold turkey 9 months ago could i still be going threw withdrawls headaches and chest pain?

No: 0.5 mg/d is a very low dose and if it has really been 9 mos, it is definitely not withdrawal, but could be anxiety which is probably why you took it in the first place. There are better alternatives if it is anxiety, but you should see your doctor to make sure it isn't something more than anxiety. ...Read more

Forget the ER doc: Shame on the ER doc for not knowing you're a non-smoker. Pain in that location which radiates to the back is really more in the abdomen than chest. 2 concerns I would have are: pancreatitis and peptic ulcer. You need further eval. Please see your family doc or go to a different ER if you otherwise don't have access to care. ...Read more

I ve continuous chest pain on left side for 3 months..and I burp a lot.what it is & is it dangerous? Smoker bt already quit.and my age is 25.

Unsure: Left sided chest pain can have several causes, some very serious. With burping, uncontrolled acid reflux is high on the list. What did your Barium swallow show? If the omeprazole hasn't helped, you are due for endoscopy. Also make sure H pylori is ruled out and you avoid nsaids. Other possibilities are heart/heart lining problems, lung inflammation, chest wall musc/connective tis pain etc ...Read more

I quit smoking 2 months ago and have recently started running. I've been experiencing slight but continuous chest pain. Should I be worried? Thanks!

Possibly-don't panic: At 24 you are young for concern, but any chest pain, espec in a smoker, should be eval at least clinically. Simply more hx could poss allow for a more definitive answer. Some people do experience a worsening of sx's shortly after quitting smoking as the lungs start to clear some of the toxins. Cont pain is a actually a little reassuring, if it was a heart prob by now it would likely be obvious. ...Read more

See a doctor: It is a well know.fact that women can present more often than men with "atypical" symptoms when it comes to their heart, so in my opinion this needs to be looked into a little more with some sort of stress test. Ex-smokers often accumulate an excess of mucous in their bronchi which may have been responsible for your symptoms. Esophageal spasm or GERD also may have been the cause. Also, anxiety. ...Read more

Not too late...yet: The train is getting ready to leave the station. Be sure you're on it! You have acute bronchitis. Your breathing passages are doing their best to send you a message. Please listen. Some day, it will be too late. At 20, it isn't now. And it doesn't have to be ever. Don't pay for some tobacco executive's BMW. Save your money, your lungs, and your life. Took OTC diet pills w/1,3 DMAA, ephedra, synephrine etc 3mos,quit,almost had HRT attk 6/20.Chest pain, sob still present but not as often.Side effects?

Stop pills: If you stopped taking the pills in June, 6 weeks ago, after what felt like a heart attack, then the substances are long gone from your body and are not the source of the symptoms. If you are still taking diet pills, they could be causing the symptoms and should be stopped. I recommend seeing your doctor for these very concerning symptoms. ...Read more

I quit smoking 1.5 yrs ago after smoking in and off for 13 yrs. I have no chest pain, no cough, and am physically active. why am I wheezing ?

Airways disease: Smoking is a major cause of lung disorders but may combine with other exposures like pollution to affect your lungs. Sometimes a heart condition may lead to wheezing or you may actually have asthma previously unsuspected. Talk with your doctor about getting a check-up with a lung specialist. You may also need a cardiac check-up. Rarely, wheezing may also come from your throat (stridor). ...Read more

25 years old, quit smoking for 1 mnth, sob, intermittent chest pain that moves, doctors say lungs sound clear, no ,cxr lung cancer??

Not cancer: Congratulations on your smoking cessation. Lung cancer doesn't present this way. The pain is almost certainly chest wall pain, but if you are really short of breath as well (and it's not just from discomfort), you need a competent fitness evaluation and perhaps spirometry in addition to your CXR and exam. Adult-onset asthma might be the explanation; it's manageable. Best wishes. ...Read more
