Ive been having chest pains for the past 7 months. Recently, whenever my chest hurts my left arm and hand gets numb and stiff. Why is this happening?

Seen by MD?: If you've been seen by your doctor already and these symptoms are a continuation of what's been going on for the past 7 months then, what's going on now is not a medical emergency and can be worked up more calmly. If you have not been seen by a physician then, again my index of suspicion is lower for a truly emergent cardiac or other type of acute problem but nevertheless you should be seen by MD. ...Read more

My girlfriend has pain from her shoulder down to her left hand, no numbness, no chest pain she is 53. What can it be?

My girlfriend has pain from her shoulder down to her left hand, no numbness, no chest pain she is 53. What can it be?

Could be cardiac: It could be many things, among them is angina from her heart. The crux of the decision to present emergently for chest pain should be based off the pre-test probability of how likely it is that her discomfort is from her heart. It depends on her risk factors really. It's less to be cardiac but is still possibly. Musculoskeletal is other possibility, or pinched nerve. ...Read more

My father is in hospital with chest pain off and on along with numbness in both hands. His Troponin level is 2.55. No answers... any thoughts?

Ischemic heart Dz: A troponin level > 0.05 ng/mL indicates some sort of heart damage. I assume by "2.55" u mean 2.55 ng/mL, which is definitely abnormal. He shd be checked out by a Cardiologist b4 an artery becomes blocked off, ie heart attack. ...Read more

My father is in hospital with chest pain off and on along with numbness in both hands. His Troponin level is 2.55. No answers... any thoughts?

Ischemic Heart Dis: Chest pain with elevated troponin needs an urgent evaluation by a cardiologist. Since your father is already in the hospital, I presume he has already been evaluated by a cardiologist or if there is no cardiologist, he has been sent immediately to a hospital that has the capacity and personnel to evaluate and treat. He may be having a serious heart attack. ...Read more

2 symptoms: Chest pains-has he had a treadmill maximal stress test to check for coronary artery problems? Recurrent right arm numbness could be due to nerve impingement(? At the wrist) or blockage in the left carotid artery. An ultrasound of the carotid arteries would be important. A neurologist would be best to evaluate the right hand complaints. ...Read more
