Talk to your surgeon: Usually less pain after vats c/w open surgery, but it still can hurt. Pain usually resolves over a few weeks. Nerve pain (intercostal neuralgia) caused by trauma to the nerve between the ribs) can last longer.

Post by-pass surgery have developed conditions causing considerate on-going chest pain. Doctors debating between angina and costal chondritis for 2 yr?

Chest pain: It seems a long time for costochondritis but another thought is pericarditis which can persist after surgery. Most importantly, would rule out coronary blockage as a cause of the discomfort.

I am going to have the tif procedure any advise before or after surgery? I have been having a lot of burning and chest pain with the gerd..

Follow instructions.: Tif is an excellent anti reflux surgery. Make sure to follow the diet and don't overeat. It's very important to not vomit for the first six weeks after surgery. You should be pleased with your results and most of my patients end up losing 10 -15 pounds, which is an added bonus.

After a coronary left VATS surgery, I have awful chest pain. Can it be from deflating & inflating a very scarred Sarcoid Lund and mediasternum area?

SOS cardiologist: You need to contact your cardiologist ASAP. There can be many reasons for your severe chest pain including the reasons you have mentioned. If you can tolerate NSAID, try it now while waiting for a doctor appt. If you can't be seen within the next 12 hrs, go to the ER.

14 months post bypass op, have been diagnosed with non-cardiac chest pain. Pain level on a normal day is the same as two weeks after surgery, why?

14 months post bypass op, have been diagnosed with non-cardiac chest pain. Pain level on a normal day is the same as two weeks after surgery, why?

Happens: I've see this before: some people have very troublesome chest wall pain after CABG surgery related to scar formation and adhesions. I've found that physical therapists who are skilled with scar manipulation and stretching can provide significant relief. Some people have relief with Lyrica (pregabalin) or neurontin. Keep your spirits up - it's worse when you're down. Try to be as active as you're able. Gd luck.

Pain: Likely your pain is neuropathic due to nerve root irritation-see a competent neurologist to confirm this suspicion, management may be difficult. Good Luck

Don't overdo it: Hopefully you have been seen by a physician for the chest pain and related symptoms. That is PRIORITY number 1. Work with your physicians to optimize diet plan and exercise regimen for you that is safe. Do NOT exercise "through" chest pain unless explicitly advised to do so. Kudos for working diligently to meet your goal and good luck.

Contact the doctor: That treated you. The chances that you developed subacute bacterial endocarditis is infinitesimally low, but nonetheless, you should call the oral and maxillofacial surgeon for a follow-up.

Chest pain that started the night my dad had open heart surgery. I had stress tests and everything says I'm fine. Still have chest pain. Just anxiety?

Chest pain that started the night my dad had open heart surgery. I had stress tests and everything says I'm fine. Still have chest pain. Just anxiety?

Most likely: Chest pain in a 23 year old is very unusual for it to be the real thing -- i.e. Coronary artery disease from cholesterol build-up. Probably is anxiety as u know your dad had CABG. BUT if you are diabetic and/or known obesity and/or excess LDL, then chest pain can be real. BUT if you are healthy, young, fit individual without major risk factors then ought not to be coronary artery disease.
