The Heinous Hiatus: Yeah, maybe. You might have had a small one before pregnancy that got worse and now you are feeling the consequences. But, you should have had some symptoms during pregnancy, but maybe you thought it was just being pregnant. Anyways, you'll need a doctor for this. Until you see one, eat smaller meals, not late at night, use some pillows if you can, and antacids and avoid greasy or acidic foods. ...Read more
Can having GERD and oesophagitis with a small hitus hernia in the upper stomach chest etc cause either breathless and pressure like symptom bloating?
Maybe: Gerd can cause many symptoms. Shortness of breath can occur if reflux enters the airway. This can be evaluated with a ph probe. Bloating symptoms may be related to diet, sodas, gastroparesis and other conditions. An evaluation by a GI doctor can help determine if you have laryngopharyngeal reflux. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have hiatal hernia and gerd, but only symptom is throat itch. No other pain in chest or stomach. Is that really gerd? My hernia found tru gatroscopy.
Maybe: You have an atypical symptom for gerd, which means it has a 60-70% chance at best of being related to gerd. A 48 hour ph study can help correlate acid reflux events to your symptom. This should be done off antacid mess for a week. A 24hour ph impedance study could be done on meds as well. Your GI doctor can help with these if its bad enough. Best of luck. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Hi I'm getting a hernia operation on friday and just want to know if they can still do operation as I have a small cold & chest injection?
Everytime I eat I get upper chest pain. I do have a small hernia...Is that causing the chest pain.
Unlikely: Large hiatal hernias would be likely to cause this. These are also known as paraesophageal hernias. Small hiatal hernias are usually not of much consequence, but could get larger over the years. Also, spasm of the esophagus could cause the pain. This is diagnosed with manometry where a small tube goes through the nose and into the stomach. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Had nissen done over 10 yrs ago. It has loosened and slipped into chest cavity. Can it be taken down and reversed and can hernia just be fixed.?
Re-do Nissen: Revision fundoplication is more involved than the primary operation. The reason for revision needs to be identified. Recurrent reflux and difficulty swallowing are common reasons. Preop testing should include endoscopy, barium swallow, and possibly ph probe, manometry and gastric emptying studies. I do not recommend simply reversing as it will result in severe reflux symptoms in most cases. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have been getting pain in the chest region right where haital hernias occur I get pian when I walk around what is it I have?
My chest xray has shown a "tortuos aorta'. No one seems concerned about it but me. I'm 66 - and have a hiatel hernia. Could the two be related?
Not related: You have a hiatal hernia. You have a tortuous aorta. The two are not related. The aorta has turns in it that are being commented or described by the radiologist. Ask you doctor, the person who ordered the study, to tell you why they ordered the ct scan. Then ask them what was found. So long as the aorta is not enlarged (dilated or aneurysmal) then it is normal. Hope this helps. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
