Chest Feels Congested With No Runny Nose Or Cou G H
I'm having a dry cough, and runny nose and it feels like my chest is congested. Is this a common cold? Will OTC medicine work?
Common Cold: If your dry cough persists for a while (4-6 weeks) this could be secondary to inflammation in your upper airway or lungs subsequent to the common cold viruses or post nasal drip syndrome, in both these cases a short course of inhaled broncho dilators like albuterol might be useful (this is not OTC). Try steam inhalation, it provides symptomatic relief. ...Read more

18 week old doesn't have runny nose but sounds congested for past 10 days. Chest sounds fine (I think) Tried humidifier & saline drops. What can it be?
Baby nose: As babies face and head grow early in life, the nasal passages can actually narrow out a little bit. Since the nasal passages are so very narrow to start with in infants, a little bit of additional narrowing can lead to a lot of noise. He (or she) will outgrow this as face fills out in the second half of the first year. Nothing to worry about as long s no other symptoms and eating fine! ...Read more

I don't have a runny nose or cough but I can feel a lot of congestion in my chest and its difficult to breathe sometimes. What should I do?
That depends...: Depends on how long the symptoms have been going on and whether there are associated symptoms such as swelling in the ankles, wheeze, fever, worsened breathing when lying flat and a number of other questions and physical exam data points. Try mucinex (guaifenesin) to loosen any phlegm. If symptoms are long-standing, an exam by a physician at a minimum. ...Read more

What's wrong with me? What should I take? I have a little bit of a stuffy/runny nose but can still breath and a little soar throught but I can still swallow and I have coughing and when I swallow my chest kinda hurts.
Sore throat is a fairly common symptom associated with many illnesses. Most of the time it resolves on its own without any other issues. Occasionally it can be due to something more serious that needs treatment. Reasons to seek care are:
- any fever - since it could be strep and you can't tell without an exam/testing
- if it lasts longer than 3 or 4 days
- any difficulty opening your mouth
- unable to swallow
- severe pain
- bleeding in the throat
- redness or swelling on the outside of the neck
- any difficulty breathing or noisy breathing
in the meantime, taking Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen for pain, using a humidifier in your bedroom, drinking plenty of fluids such as hot tea/broth or cold liquids and a spoonful of honey can help. ...Read more

Total IgE: Normal value of total ige varies between methods of measurement and age. Each lab will give you a normal value range. In general for adult, it should be less than 100 ku/l so your value of 159 ku/l is slightly elevated. Together with your symptoms, it is likely that you have allergic rhinitis and asthma. Bloating after eating can be due to several reasons beside food allergy. ...Read more

Coughing with pleghm that is clear with green spots, throat feel irritated, runny nose, chest feel tight, difficulty breathing, what's wrong?
