What can this cea pattern mean on chemotherapy for colon cancer mets
65 before chemo, 80 after round 1, 55 after round 2?

It's improving!: All it really means is the CEA is going in the right direction ... falling after chemotherapy. You can not reliably speculate on what the number changes might say about the magnitude of improvement. There is too much individual variability and unpredictability for that. I would be pleased that these changes have occurred. Best wishes as you continue your treatment:) ...Read more

Vietvet pt on 3rd chemo tx for n-hl (agent orange). Also advanced hip bone damage. Replacement planned aft yr. Fears it may cause n-hl relapse. Can it?

Unlikely: If your nhl is under control for a couple of years, it is unlikely to relapse. Surgery like you are palnning does not cause relapse of cancer. So i would not worry about having your hip replaced. ...Read more

Nhl grade 3a stage 1, 6 cycles of rchop-21 and igrt 30 gy taken. Is rituximab maintenace therapy required further?

Maintenance therapy: ...with rituximab is commonly given for follicular lymphoma, but not so much for other types of NHL (non-Hodgkins Lymphoma). Rituximab maintenance forestalls the the recurrence of the disease, but does not necessarily make patients live longer; because they could also wait and get rituximab a 2nd time when there disease relapses. ...Read more

When is bone marrow transplant indicated for follicular nhl....grade 3 .....stage 4. Otherwise "perfectly healthy" 57 yo w/o 6 rounds of R-CHOP. ?

Second opinion: Allogeneic BMT with its graft vs. lymphoma effect seems to be favored over autologous and is currently being evaluated in this mostly slow, indolent, relapsing disorder. Where it fits in the pantheon of different treatment modalities should be discussed with your oncologist or get a second opinion at a center like City of Hope or Sloan Kettering ...Read more

Kras ?Adenocarcinoma? Mutation? New trial drugs with Ins. & Tissue Eval.  What is the doctor really saying to 70 year  NSCLC pat.9 month ..meets w/new cell grow

Describing the Tumor: So it sounds like the oncologist has really just given you a lot of descriptors to help describe the tumor. The idea is that if we know this information we can select therapies that are more likely to work. For example, whether a patient has a k-ras mutation helps predict whether a tumor may be resistant to a certain drug. ...Read more

Can Stem Cells therapy Cure Hair Loss(male pattern baldness)? Is it approved by FDA? I am 28 yrs male, losing hairs from temple and crown.

No: Please do not waste your money on unapproved stem cell treatment. It may be causing you concern but baldness is a benign condition and you may try to live with it or get a hair piece. The so called stem cell treatment will not only cost a lot, will not help and may expose you to dangers of unapproved treatments. ...Read more

Day 3, 1st round folfox regimen for stage iib colon ca. Severe chest pain with eating. Ekg normal, awaiting lab results. Could the chemo cause this?

Yes!: The medications in folfox (5-fu, leucovorin and oxaliplatin) can cause gastric reflux. If you are not taking an acid-blocking drug (like Pepcid (famotidine) or prilosec), you might want to ask your doctor if this will help. Another side effect called mucositis causes sores throughout your mouth and throat. Sometimes the mucositis can occur in the esophagus, causing chest pain with eating. ...Read more

Uveitis!: Uveitis is one of the leading causes of blindness in the working age people. Having said that it is probably a statistic from 10+ years ago, when there were no biological infusions or intravitreal injections. The leaps and bound in the rheumatology and uveitis treatment have been eneromous. See an up to date rheumatologist and an ophthalmologist that will aggressively treat this! ...Read more

Can laser therapy help female-pattern alopecia? (crown, sides, and overall thinning) anything besides rogaine (minoxidil)? (child-bearing years)

Can laser therapy help female-pattern alopecia? (crown, sides, and overall thinning) anything besides rogaine (minoxidil)? (child-bearing years)

Female hairloss: See a dermatologist for a clear diagnosis as many conditions can mimic female pattern hair loss. You may need additional tests. Unfortunately oral meds are out for women. Topically the most cost effective is rogaine (minoxidil). Latisse might work as well but is cost prohibitive. New topicals are coming. Led lights and laser are not proven to be effective. ...Read more
