Chemical Peel For Acne Scars
Ive been getting chemical peels for acne scars. I got 2 light enzym peels and 1 extra strength enzyme peel. After how many peels will the scars heal?
Scars aren't removed: by peels. You can do them until the cows come home, and not see much difference other than exfoliation. So that's an expensive alternative that has been marketed to you. Cosmetic lasers that rebuild collagen provide longer lasting results, as scarring is occurring from the damaged collagen fibers that have created crater-like effects from contraction. Treat the cause, not the hype. ...Read more
Acne is one of the most common skin conditions. It affects about 80% of adolescents. Acne starts as a blockage of the sebaceous glands followed by inflammation. It occurs in areas where there are lots of sebaceous glands, such as the face back and chest. There are numerous treatments available, both topical and systemic. The most commonly used are benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, and antibiotics ...Read more
Chemical peels: In short, yes. But that all depends on the depth of the scars, and the type/strength of chemical. Very deep scars are sometimes best treated by excising them first, then resurfacing. This depends greatly on the surgeon's skill. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Not effective: Chemical peels are temporary and thin the skin. You may need laser care to plump up the skin. A chemical peel can also trigger an acne break out. ...Read more

No: Chemical peels are not strong enough to do anything about scars and most benefits from peels are temporary. There are many types of peels but they are a caustic way of treating hyperpigmantation on a temporary basis. They can also help with acne to dry it up temporarily. Strong peels require downtime. ...Read more

What is the difference between a chemical peel and laser resurfacing? What is better for purple/red acne scars?
Peel versus laser: Chemical peels use an acid to chemically damage the outer layers of the skin. Lasers also damage the skin using light energy, there is a new laser that emits a pattern of laser energy in the skin, it can be done with numbing cream on the face. Purple /red scars are still active and a probably are best treated with steeroids. ...Read more
