A chemical peel is typically a controlled burn administered with an acid to the surface of the skin. Superficial, medium and deep peels are available with no, 1 week and several weeks of downtime. Peels burn the outer layer of the skin (superficial) or variable amounts of the dermis to increase collagen, elastin, remove dark spots and fine wrinkles and give the skin a glow.

However, these meical grade peels should only be done by md's with experience (facial plastic surgeons/dermatologists).
