Exam: It's difficult to say what is happening, but you should have an examination by a medical practitioner. Soreness of a single breast could possibly be a sign of pregnancy, if you are active in that way, but usually it is both breasts. Please take care of this so you won't have to worry. ...Read more
Should I be worried about breast cancer? Breast discharge off and on from right breast. Mammo and ultrasound clear. No lumps according to OBGYN. 26/F.
33 yrs old, axillary swelling, family history of breast cancerbefore 40. Doctor suggests mammogram. Should I hold off on xrays? Are there better tests?
Fibrocystic changes: Assuming no other symptoms, what you describe could be fibrocyctic breasts. A common issue amoung women. They are not malignant. Adequate breast support and wearing a bra at night, may provide relief of symptoms. Antiinflammatory medications, including Acetaminophen and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory medications (nsaids), also help. Vit c, e, b and primrose oil may help although not well studied. ...Read more
Not usually: Bryce: a lump that is close to the nipple where a lot of nerve endings are located can be painful and one closer to the armpit where there are also a lot of nerves can be painful. A lump in the main part of the breast is usually painless, hard and non-movable. Any lump should be checked out though. I recommend you call it to your doctor's attention so that appropriate testing can be done. ...Read more

Mammogram results-intramammographic benign lymph nodes. Huge family history of breast, ovarian, and cervical cancer. Should I be worried and pursue this?
BRCA: If you have a strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer you should ask for BRCA genetic testing. This tests your genetic risk for developing these cancers. There are several companies that do this test and individualized treatment plans can be created. Cervical cancer is not related to family history but rather exposure to the sexually transmitted HPV virus. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What happens at an breast MRI if your not screening for breast cancer but screening for both breasts that have inverted nipple discharge? I'm 18.
Careful with MRI: Mri has a high sensitivity but low specificity and often finds many benign lesions. That increases worry and leads to more tests and biopsies, but rarely finds cancer. I wouldn't recommend MRI here. Bilateral nipple discharge is common and not worrisome for cancer, and cancer at age 18 is extremely unlikely. There are other tests to determine the cause of the discharge or if it is of concern. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers

During self breast exam I note my areolas feel lumpy beneath the skin. Some lumps larger and firmer than others. Are lumps meant to be there?
Normal findings...: The breast tissue usually feels "lumpy" because of the mammary glands which give them that quality. However, if you have felt a hard lump or larger than usual that persists for several days or more it is time to have that checked with your doctor. Also if you have skin changes on your breast area, fluid coming out of your nipples or changes in your nipple appearance you need immediate evaluation. ...Read more
Usually not: Benign or malignant, the lump created by a tumor "does not belong" in the breast; it's removal should theoretically return the breast to normal. The degree of deformity created by surgery depends on the amout of normal tissue disrupted & the location of the incision. An experienced breast surgeon can do this operation with minimal cosmetic deformity. We even have a name for it: oncoplastics. ...Read more
