What can I do if my braces change color. Next appointment is next week. Oh gosh! Help me!?

Patient care: The staining probably came from something you ate or drank. One of my patients came in after eating a curry bases dish- wow. Call your doc and asked to be seen earlier to help the situation. Also try rinsing with half peroxide & haf water solution. ...Read more

I had sex before my colposcapy, will this change the results of it? Was it dangerous to do so? And should I cancel my appointment?

I had sex before my colposcapy, will this change the results of it? Was it dangerous to do so? And should I cancel my appointment?

Colpo: Well if its unprotected sex, your physician will have to put up with the smell of old semen. Most of us in GYN find that offensive when patients do that. Its not dangerous, but don't be surprised if your GYN isn't happy about it. Honestly I would call the office and ask if you should reschedule as a courtesy to your provider. ...Read more

My bowl habits have changed over the last month and a half. Should I schedule an appointment with my dr. Or not?

My bowl habits have changed over the last month and a half. Should I schedule an appointment with my dr. Or not?

See your doctor...: Yes, do see your doctor if your bowel movements have changed significantly in diameter, character, or color - especially if the bms are tarry, bloody, or a dark black. Black or tarry stools may signify bleeding into the bowel. This is all especially important if you have a family history of colon cancer. Good luck. Lgromkomd. ...Read more

Keep appointment: What you described does not appear to be an urgent matter. Keep your scheduled appointment.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

The doctor schedule me a consultation to remove a growth from vagina but the appointment is a month from now. Could the growth change a lot by then?

The doctor schedule me a consultation to remove a growth from vagina but the appointment is a month from now. Could the growth change a lot by then?

Yes: Yes, many things can happen in a month. But think back to how long it's been there. If it's been a while, it probably won't change over a month. If it just popped up, it could potentially change quite a bit over 30 days. Also depends upon "growth". If it's a "mole", less likely to change. If a cyst/gland/abscess, yes, it could change, especially abscess. But then again, if that, s/he wouldn't wait ...Read more

If I ordered a cat scan of my brain but now wanna mri, how can I change it? Could I call the nurse and change it or have to go to another appointment?

If I ordered a cat scan of my brain but now wanna mri, how can I change it? Could I call the nurse and change it or have to go to another appointment?

Depends: The most important question is why are you having the ct of the head. If it is being done because of concerns about intracranial bleeding then that is the most appropriate test. If it is being done as a screen then you are unlikely to get your provider to change it due to cost and medical necessity. Good luck and well wishes. ...Read more

If I wanna change my ordered CT scan to an MRI to safety reasons, would I have to hve an appointment with doc again or could I call and ask the nurse?

Not Playing Doctor: This is a bit of a complicated story. Sometimes MRI is not the best way to evaluate a problem. One cannot just assume that MRI would provide the necessary information. One does not make this determination. Your physician in consultation with the radiologist will order the most appropriate film. ...Read more

Possible dry eye: Thankfully, there are not a lot of very worrisome causes that would cause mild blurriness in both eyes, in a period of 2 weeks. Dry eye is a possible cause - this could be caused by environmental changes as well as time spent in airplanes where the air is very dry. Try using some over-the-counter artificial tears several times a day and watch for improvement. ...Read more

How do I arrange an appointment for my gran to have a full checking up (M.O.T)?

How do I arrange an appointment for my gran to have a full checking up (M.O.T)?

Need local doc.: It's been said that as many as 33% of primary care visits can be accomplished virtually, but the full check-up doesn't fall into that category. The full check-up requires an exhaustive history, physical examination, health maintenance advice, blood testing, and anything else that may be deemed needed for some one of your gran's age. Can't really do this virtually. ...Read more

I have an IUD but I haven't been able to feel the string for about a month. Should I be worried? I have an appointment for next week.

Don't worry: It is not uncommon for IUD strings to curl under cervix or into OS (cervical opening). It is not common, but not impossible for IUD to become completely expelled without patient's knowledge. I would recommend being seen sooner to confirm that your IUD is still in uterus. ...Read more

What is an important area of care patients are often not aware of and medical professionals don't have time to address in the average appointment?

Communication: In this day & age, we don't listen & we don't check to find out if you understand what we tried to convey or if we even understood you in 1st place. Another facet of communication is medication adherence. Did you take meds as directed. Did you tell us about all meds & dietary supplements? Also we can't overemphasize need to communicate your health goals. Maybe you don't want more testing/procedure ...Read more

I have an appointment with a nurse practitioner for a physical. What are some things that they won't be able to answer or do for me that my dr would?

It Depends: Most nps are very good at doing physicals and discussing routine check up questions. They are also usually good at knowing when something requires a higher md level of attention. They also can handle many common aliments just as competently as an md. The differences mostly come in when symptoms are difficult to diagnose or someone has a serious, rare condition. ...Read more
