I am not able to comment on either the safety or the efficacy of this practice. However, my understanding is that the clove (especially if sliced open) can sometimes burn the mucosa (skin in the vagina); especially if the mucosa is already raw from a yeast infection. Thus, if you get a clove of garlic lodged inside you, it may become painful. Regardless of the reason that you placed garlic in your vagina, it is now a foreign object.
