Cervical Spine Instability Symptoms
What are the best exercises for upper cervical spine instability? I have Ehlers danlos and want to start doing exercises to help my neck.
You need individual: Instruction. For most, It would be fairly safe to recommend a few simple cervical stretches for range of motion and flexibility, but if you truly have instability in the setting of Ehlers-Danlos, then any exercises need to be specifically prescribed for you. Bracing and corrective surgery also play a role in the treatment of joint complications. Continue to work with your doctors, esp Cardiologist
I have eds 3. Mild to moderate neck headache for 5 days on and off. Ct normal. Cervical spine instability? How can I tell? Dangerous?
Dynamic views: Instability of the cervical spine best evaluated in the lateral position - with flexion/extension xrays. Probably not dangerous. See md for full workup.
Stretching and: Strengthening of the cervical paraspinals. One of the main causes of cervical straightening is cervical paraspinal spasms. Correct these and tis will often help return the lordotic curvature to your cervical spine.
Cervical fusion: If a cervical spine fusion does not heal/fuse this is called a pseudoarthrosis. A cervical pseudoarthrosis can often be stable and not painful and does not always need treatment. If it is a painful pseudoarthrosis then an additional surgery can be done to make the level fuse. This usually involves a posterior fusion (placing screws and fusing from the back of the neck in addition to the front).

However, exercises that focus on proper posture of the spine, interscapular strengthening and core strengthening wil help support the spine and reduce forces to the injury.
