Cervical Ectropion Treatment
Can a cervical ectropion bleed daily & abundantly? Been diagnosed with one due to be treated by laser; bleeding has become much worse in past weeks.
Chlamydia testing: A heavy bleeding from a cervical ectropion sound unusual, but I would not completely dismiss it. I would want to be sure, other factors have been ruled out, e.g., a chlamydia infection, and I would want to be sure that testing for HPV is negative, making is highly unlikely that this could be cervical dysplasia. ...Read more
Does cervical ectropion go away on its own? Does it affect chances of getting preg? How serious is this issue?
Common: Cervical ectropian does go away and it does not affect the chances of pregnancy unless doctor has confused ectropion with inflammation from a std, for example. If you're worried, make sure you're free from stds, otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. We see it all the time and is a normal variation. ...Read more

Cervical ectropion due to be treated by laser; symptoms much worse - bleeding daily & abundantly, not related to intercourse. Potential other disease?
Not typical: Cervical ectropion is usually just an anatomic variant and not an abnormality. It is possible that this could cause bleeding but is not a common cause. I would confirm the diagnosis. Cervical polyps, endometrial polyps, fibroids, infections and many other things are a more likely cause. ...Read more
I have cervical ectropion. Dr. treated it with silver nitrate yesterday. Moderate to heavy clotty bleeding today. Is this a normal side effect?
Why Treated?: Cervical Ectropion is usually a normal, asymptomatic variation of the cervix, rarely requiring treatment unless vaginal discharge or post-coital (after sex) bleeding is very bothersome. The 1st treatment is usually to stop OCPs (like Yaz) which are often the cause of this phenomenon, Otherwise electrocautery is performed to ablate the bleeding vessels. Silver nitrate is not as effective. ...Read more
Why do I have vaginal bleeding after intercourse? Could it be because of cervical ectropion? I don't have any sexually transmitted diseases
Could be: Cervical ectropion is a possibility especially in a teenager. Cervical infections like chlamydia can do this. Cervical warts from hpv, cervical polyps, irregular periods, hormonal imbalances are some of the other possibilities. Hopefully you are using condoms and are taking birth control. Please schedule a visit to determine the cause and to prevent an unplanned pregnancy. ...Read more
Please can I have info on cervical erosion. I never got any kind if treatment when I was told I have it. Confused? Is there a way to heal it on my own
Outdated term: In the us, this term isn't used, as it doesn't have a specific definition or cause. In other parts of the world, it's been used to describe a red appearance of the cervix, which may be caused by infection, stds, or may be normal. See a gyno now, and ask if there's any abnormal appearance, and get tested for stds if needed. Then use condoms in the future if you may be at risk for stds. ...Read more

Can be normal: This can be the normal process after treatment as the cervix goes through stages of healing. Had a part of my cervix cauterize even though my pap was normal&i now I'm hearing now it wasn't necessary cause I didn't have ectropion. What will happen?
Probably just fine: Ectropion is a common cervical finding that is rarely associated with any worrisome condition. Cautery or laser treatment to the cervix is generally reserved for early abnormal changes to the cervix (such as moderate or severe dysplasia) that are discovered by biopsy if one's Pap test is abnormal. The cervix almost always heals well after cautery. Rarely pregnancy/ infertility issues can arise. ...Read more

I have spotting between periods. I am 18 months post-partum and still breastfeeding. I have had cervical ectropions in the past. What could it be?
Ectropion v. BF: Definitely either ectropion or breast feeding could be the cause. When a woman breastfeeds, she has elevated levels of prolactin, a hormone essential for breastfeeding. Prolactin can interfere with a regular cycle. Ectropions (benign) can also be associated, but more with post-coital spotting of bright red blood. If you're worried, see your doctor for an exam! Be well. ...Read more
