You: You need to discuss the results of your pap smear with your doctor again so you better understand what was found. Sometimes a test is done with the pap smear to determine if the cerix is infected with a strain of hpv that would put you at a higher risk for cancer and sometimes a special examination of the cervix called a colposcopy is needed to double check the area. Thankfully, many, many women who have abnormal cells will not develop cancer.

Cancer (Definition)

Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more

Could pain during intercourse indicate cervical cancer? If I have pain during intercourse, could this be an indication of cervical cancer? .

Could pain during intercourse indicate cervical cancer? If I have pain during intercourse, could this be an indication of cervical cancer? .

Possible but. ...: Anything that causes inflammation or irritation in the vaginal canal or cervix can cause discomfort during intercourse. Infections, benign findings likes cysts or fibroids, as well as metabolic changes that lead to dryness or hormonal changes that can lead to bleeding all can cause discomfort. Cervical cancer is often diagnosed early with no symptoms, but once advanced it can cause pain or blood.

Could pain during intercourse indicate cervical cancer? If I have pain during intercourse, could this be an indication of cervical cancer? .

Could pain during intercourse indicate cervical cancer? If I have pain during intercourse, could this be an indication of cervical cancer? .

Probably not: Cervical cancer rarely causes pain until it is very advanced. A common symptom is bleeding after intercourse but otherwise it has few symptoms which is why women should get their pap smears routinely. When the cancer is early or in its precancerous state, it has no symptoms.

I haver cervical cancer on dads side of family, no pain during sex but slight bleeding during sex and constant achy pelvic pain could I have it?

See a gynacologist: You may have pelvic inflammatory disease, may be the cause of your pain, you are 17 at this age you still can be vaccinated with quadrivalent (Gardasil) covering types 16, 18, 6 and 11. Take care of yourself, and don't worry about cervical cancer foe next few decades..

Pain during sex and pain in vagina almost all the time on the inside and outside. I have swollen lymonodes and am bleeding. Do I have cervical cancer?

Doesn't sound like: Cervical cancer but more like an infection. You need to see your gyn for a check up, treatment and a cure for this condition. You will also automatically get screened for cervical cancer.

Was diagnosed with early stages of cervical cancer. I'm 19, advised to do a surgery this month coming. I have a deep pain during sex almost in stomach?

Glad it was found: Elect for the surgery. It will probably be curative. Back in the bad old day, tens of thousands of women, many of them young, died of cervical cancer each year. Today's care prevents this. If you are offered the hpv vaccine, take it. It will protect you from any additional dangerous strain you may not yet have contracted. Your discomfort during sex may be due to endometriosis, probably not cancer.

Cervical cancer: Have you had your colposcopic exam and biopsies to work up your abnormal pap? That exam will help tell if you have cervical cancer. A more common diagnosis would be cervical dysplasia and endometriosis.

Can cervical cancer be transmitted through intercourse?

Can cervical cancer be transmitted through intercourse?

No: But the virus that causes cervical cancer (hpv) is sexually transmitted. Things to remember: girls should get the hpv vaccine, women should get pap smears and hpv tests, and everybody should enjoy sex responsibly, please.

Is there a connection between cervical cancer and having sexual intercourse with circumcised man?

Is there a connection between cervical cancer and having sexual intercourse with circumcised man?

Not specificly: The present thinking on cervical cancer involves acquiring a virus during vaginal sex that may spend decades in your body before it begins to change your cervix & lead to cancer. Many strains of the virus exist & a man, circumcised or not, may carry it for decades without knowing it. So any carrier man can pass it to you. A vaccine to prevent 4 strains is available but only helps before you get it.

How risky is having sexual intercourse with someone whose ex-partner was diagnosed with HPV cervical cancer?

How risky is having sexual intercourse with someone whose ex-partner was diagnosed with HPV cervical cancer?

We don't know.: What you do know is that this new sexual partner has likely been exposed to hpv strains that are the high risk type. However, it is unlikely that you or anyone else for that matter will go through life having never been exposed to hpv. Hpv is extremely common and hpv vaccine, getting regular pap smears and follow up/treatment is the only way to truly prevent cervical cancer.

I have right ovarian pain after intercourse I'm two years post hysterectomy from cervical cancer. Why the pain?

Scar tissue: Surgery results in post-operative healing--which generally gives you scarring. The scarring causes unusual pressure or pulling on the organs that remain, which can pull the nerves -- resulting in pain. Different positions may also result in more pain than others. Perhaps you can try something else that would be more comfortable.

What is the risk associated with having sexual intercourse with someone whose ex partner was diagnosed with HPV cervical cancer?

What is the risk associated with having sexual intercourse with someone whose ex partner was diagnosed with HPV cervical cancer?

Very common: Hpv is prevalent. About 70& of all twenty year olds will acquire it by the time they become sexually active. Most individuals will clear it on their own in a few years so that by the time someone is thirty, only about five percent have hpv.

If you have cervical cancer, is it painful to engage in intercourse?

No: For the most part cervical cancer today is CIC. There is no gross lesion and as xuch intercourse will not cause problems especially if treatment such cruoablation has been used. If there is a large ulcerating untreatted lesion the patient will know because of the ensuing hemorrhage.

I'm 25 but I have never had sexual intercourse. How likely it would be for me to have cervical cancer?

I'm 25 but I have never had sexual intercourse. How likely it would be for me to have cervical cancer?

Almost: Impossible. Cervical cancer comes from the HPV virus that you get through sexual contact. It can be gotten through close contact other than intercourse if the contact was close enough though. So still be careful rubbing bare skin to skin if you don't want sexually transmitted diseases

How is young age of first intercourse & cervical cancer related? How many get cancer due to this reason specially in those who have never had papsmear

How is young age of first intercourse & cervical cancer related? How many get cancer due to this reason specially in those who have never had papsmear

HPV exposure: Most cervical cancers are caused by chronic infection with certain strains of the human papilloma virus. Hpv is spread by unprotected sex, and so the earlier age a girl starts having sex, the more likely she is to have more partners and run into one who is hpv+. Pap smears screen for the early changes caused by hpv; if you don't have one you aren't screened or treated, and so have a higher risk.

How common is cervical cancer for a 25 year old who has never had a pap smear? I have engaged in sexual activity but have not had intercourse.

How common is cervical cancer for a 25 year old who has never had a pap smear? I have engaged in sexual activity but have not had intercourse.

Uncommon: Most cervical cancers are due to infection with a virus, human papiloma virus (hpv) which is usually acquired through sexual intercourse. Oral sex can transmit hpv and using condom is not protective either. You are too young to have cervical cancer, but I would strongly urge you to seek care for preventive services, including hpv vaccine, though you may have missed the recommended age for vaccine.

If symptoms already show like bleeding during intercourse. How long will I live without treatment if it is indeed cervical cancer?

If symptoms already show like bleeding during intercourse. How long will I live without treatment if it is indeed cervical cancer?

Wrong question!: Please forgive my rudeness. It's because I care about you and because your life may be in danger. Most bleeding during intercourse isn't due to cervical cancer. Most cervical cancers are curable -- but only if you drop this superstitious, fatalistic, unrealistic attitude. Be an appropriately assertive woman. This is the 21st century. Pick up the phone NOW and ask to see your physician.

Left side pain during intercourse, family history with cancer and cyst problems, also have headaches, tiredness, and weight gain tummy. Plz help!?

What a mix!: I am not sure if all the symptoms you listed are related, but I would start with seeing a medical provider. Start with a comprehensive history intake and physical exam. You may need vaginal exam to rule out problems causing painful intercourse. Maybe some blood studies to rule out fatigue causes. Urinalysis/culture may be helpful to determine ongoing bladder issues. Have your provider work u up.
