Azithromycin (Definition)

I was recently given ceftriaxone (shot), azithromycin (pill) and flagyl (pill) as pre-exposure preventative therapy. Is dark urine a side effect?

Nope: None of these drugs is a likely cause of dark urine; no worries there, but contact the doctor or clinic where you were treated. Obviously you were considered at risk for STDs. These drugs will prevent gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and trichomonas, but not viral STDs like HIV, herpes, hepatitis B, and HPV. Be sure to follow up as directed by the doctor or clinic. Good luck! ...Read more

Hi can I drink wine or smoke weed when using azithromycin & ceftriaxone? I had a shot of ceftriaxone & took two of azithromycin orally.

Hi can I drink wine or smoke weed when using azithromycin & ceftriaxone? I had a shot of ceftriaxone & took two of azithromycin orally.

Alcohol: Could interfere with some oral antibiotics but AZITHROMYCIN is generally absorbed completely and is long acting thus wine would probably NOT effect it! Weed has no effect on antibiotic effectiveness AS FAR AS IS NOW KNOWN but CONSIDER how LONG it took to find out about the HEALTH EFFECTS of TOBACCO!

Hope this is helpful

Had discharge, doc tests for Gonorrhea & chlamydia. Both negative. Treated for both anyway. Dr said urethritis. Will azithromycin & cefTRIAXone stop it?

It may: This is standard one stop therapy for STD's whether testing is positive or may be falsely negative. There are other possibilities that may become apparent over time but this hits the ones that are treatable & easily passed to others. ...Read more

Is 1000 mg of Azithromycin safe to take in the same day that I received a Ceftriaxone injection? I felt very weak and nauseous after the injection, not sure I can handle the Azithromycin tonight too.

Is 1000 mg of Azithromycin safe to take in the same day that I received a Ceftriaxone injection? I felt very weak and nauseous after the injection, not sure I can handle the Azithromycin tonight too.

Maybe: If you are having a reaction to the ceftriaxone you should only be given an injection of azithromycin if a doctor is prescribing this treatment for an illness and is aware that you are having side effects from the ceftriaxone injection. ...Read more

I've already taken 5 days of metronidazole and 1 injection of ceftriaxone for suspected PID. SX still haven't gone. Should I take Azithromycin? No STI

See your Gyn...: PID most frequently starts as a sexually transmitted infection that spreads to the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries and surrounding organs. It is usually treated with a combination of Cefoxitin and Doxycycline. Rocephin (ceftriaxone) and Azithromycin would be a good alternative. See your GYN for guidance in your specific case. Best wishes. ...Read more

Diagnosed with cervicitis on Saturday. Given IM Ceftriaxone and 1 gram oral Zithromax in ER. Symptoms worsening. How long does it take to improve?

A few days: Cervicitis is often an STD, especially gonorrhea or chlamydia, and you were correctly treated for both. The main symptoms of cervicitis (vaginal discharge, urinary discomfort, maybe spotting) can take a few days to clear up and might worsen briefly. However, if you have pelvic pain or fever, and getting worse, they suggest PID (tube infection). If so, get rechecked today; may need more antibiotic. ...Read more

Is metronidazole, injection of ceftriaxone and zithromycin enough to treat PID not caused by an STI? I'm 2 weeks pregnant so can't take doxycycline.

Is metronidazole, injection of ceftriaxone and zithromycin enough to treat PID not caused by an STI? I'm 2 weeks pregnant so can't take doxycycline.

Here are some. ..: Clinically, the antibiotic treatment you've received should cover all common PID-related bacteria. At this time, you should direct & bring all your existing concern to the treating Doc for analysis, follow-up, modification, etc. Further online chat, I'm afraid, will further confuse you with more anxiety and fear instead of help you. So, keep a close contact with your Doc so to refine the care.... ...Read more

I was treated for std given rocephin, azithromycin, penicillin. 3 days later I got sore throat lasting 4 days now. Could it be oral gonorrhea?

I was treated for std given rocephin, azithromycin, penicillin. 3 days later I got sore throat lasting 4 days now. Could it be oral gonorrhea?

Not gonorrhea: First, oral gonorrhea usually causes no sore throat or other symptoms; vast majority of cases entirely asymptomatic. Also, it is almost impossible that gonorrhea would fail these antibiotics. Probably you have viral pharyngitis; or (small chance) of yeast infection due to antibiotics. If sore throat severe and/or with ulcers/sores, maybe herpes? Check with doctor if it continues or if severe. ...Read more

Is ceftriaxone going to kill me if I keep taking it?
