Can you tell me how long does it take for 500mg cephalexin capsules to get out of your system?

Can you tell me how long does it take for 500mg cephalexin capsules to get out of your system?

Short half-life: Cephalexin has a short half-life, about an hour or maybe longer depending on the patient's kidney function. If you notice, you are supposed to take it multiple times a day -which is why... the body washes it out pretty quickly. Usually after about five times the half-life, the medicine is totally gone... so depending on 'when' you took your last dose, it should be out within a day. Hope that helps ...Read more

Is 500mg cefalexin 3 times a day to high for a 13yr old. My son has had Diarrhoea since he started them? Is this normal?

Safe antibiotic: Cephalexin is generally considered quite a safe medicine and has a good 'range' of doses. I think it's OK as far as the dose is concerned, but the diarrhea is a different story. Problem is, antibiotics can trigger some really bad side effects these days. I wonder if you've called the primary doc- sometimes they can change the antibiotic to something different. For now, chicken soup, toast, rice... ...Read more

I am taking cephalexin 500mg and its red capsule. Can I take it like a pill or have to put it in water. Pharamist was no help.

Take it like a pill: The best way to take Cephalexin 500mg is to swallow it with at least 8oz of water. You can take this medication with or without food and as directed on the prescription label. It is important to take this medication for the full curse of therapy (until it's gone) to ensure that the infection is completely eradicated and does not build resistance to the medication. ...Read more

When Will the diarrhea stop from cephalexin? I'm on my 5th day and started diarrhea yesterday afternoon UTI in now clear 500mg for 10 days

Here are some. ..: For most of uncomplicated female UTIs, a 3-5 day course of antibiotics should be more than needed if bug is sensitive to it. So, you may stop it since you got its related diarrhea and see. If not subsiding in 3 days as expected and wished, seek pro-evaluation especially at the time having fever + persistent worse diarrhea. Best wish. .. ...Read more

Can I drink alcohol after I stoped take cephalexin 500mg for 1 day? Thanks..

Can I drink alcohol after I stoped take cephalexin 500mg for 1 day? Thanks..

Probably: Cephalexin is not typically one of the antibiotics that we see a bad reaction with when taken in conjunction with alcohol ingestion. You will probably be ok but as always, drink in moderation no matter what you're taking. The only thing I can think of to be careful of is if the Cephalexin gives you a side effect of feeling dizzy, alcohol may exacerbate this. ...Read more

Is cephalexin 500mg safe to take every 6 hours when pregnant? My doctor prescribed this.

Is cephalexin 500mg safe to take every 6 hours when pregnant? My doctor prescribed this.

Benefit vs risk: This medication is pregnancy category B - which means that it is considered 'safe' in pregnancy. The doctor prescribing the medication has to consider potential benefit vs. Risk - and hopefully this was done to your satisfaction. If not, ask questions - it's their job. Usually the most critical time for any medication and pregnancy is the first trimester, if that's past, then I don't worry so much ...Read more

8 week course of Ceftrioxone, now halfway through 30 day course of Cephalexin 500mg 3xday. Developed diarrhea 5days ago, has now become clear watery and mostly flatus.

8 week course of Ceftrioxone, now halfway through 30 day course of Cephalexin 500mg 3xday. Developed diarrhea 5days ago, has now become clear watery and mostly flatus.

Needs evaluation: If you develop copious diarrhea like this after prolonged antibiotics, the prescribing doctor needs to know. There are certain types of diarrhea that can be bad-primarily I'm talking about C. diff. This form of diarrhea can worsen, and there can be consequences like kidney damage, dehydration, low blood pressure/passing out etc. Not to mention malabsorption/loss of nutrients. Hope you call TODAY. ...Read more

Is it safe to drink alcohol on cephalexin 500mg cap?

No interference: Contrary to popular beliefs, alcohol in moderation rarely interferes with any antibiotic, and won't have any effect on cephalexin (Keflex). Heavy drinking can interfere with the immune system helping fight your infection, so don't overdo it, but otherwise no worries. ...Read more

What dosage of cephalexin will help treat staph? I have 500mg. How many times a day should I take it for possible staph infection

4 times a day: If you do not have MRSA, 4 times a day should treat a staph infection. You will know within a few days if you are on the correct medicine. MRSA will take a different medicine, usually a sulfa based medicine will treat a community acquired MRSA (methicillin resistant staph aureus). Good healing. ...Read more

Can I drink wine while taking cephalexin 500mg. There was no warnings on the bottle or print out. I am currently taking this to heal a boil.

Don't recommend it: Alcohol is not a good choice when trying to treat an infection. It impairs the ability of the white blood cells to fight bacteria and produce antibodies. In addition, alcohol causes a variety of drug interactions, including with antibiotics used to treat infections. The treatment for boils is surgical, and if they are incised and drained, antibiotics are not always necessary. Would avoid alcohol. ...Read more

I started taking cephalexin 500mg. My first dose tonight and my throat is extremely dry. Is that normal?

Cephalexin - Dryness: I would have to say that I have not heard many patients express this side effect after taking cephalexin. If you're taking it for a respiratory or sinus condition, that might explain the dry throat and mucous membranes. I don't believe this is drug related so unless there is some medical reason for fluid restriction, you can feel free to force fluids while taking the cephalexin. ...Read more
