CBC test results: Elevated MCHC, elevated MCH, bottom of range for Haematocrit, everything else within normal ranges. What do these results mean?
Nothing: Your physician may want to repeat them. I trust you do not have spherocytosis or if you do, that you've been worked up. At most, a reticulocye count may be in order. Microcytosis=MCV<80: The good news is that you have normal Hgb and Hct so are not anemic at this time. When mcv and mch are low, it suggests that to maintain a normal Hct and Hbg, your body has compensated by making more rbc (high rbc) that are slightly smaller (low mcv and mch). Most common cause would be mild iron deficiency or thalassemia, but increased rbc can also be related to elevation. ...Read more

Context: As a pathologist, i spend a lot of time telling other folks, "don't focus on the numbers, focus on the person." a low absolute monocyte count seldom means anything. If your physician is not concerned, you should not be either. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
