Please help me understand. CBC with low platelet count at 95 and MPV at 12. What is the meaning next to platelet morphology saying "SI decrease"?

Thrombocytopenia: You'll need this rechecked. The platelet morphology comment actually refers to the numbers, not the shapes. If you're drinking beverages with quinine, discontinue them before your next blood draw. Your physician knows how to follow this up. Best wishes. ...Read more

Hello,,my father is suffering from low platelet count, earlier we had CBC test platelet count was 108000,but soon after 3 days it got down to 82000?

Still safe : Many things cause low platelets. This includes medications, autoimmune problems, a large spleen, or problems with the bone marrow. Without more information, I can't tell you what might be wrong with your dad. But I can tell you he is not at risk of bleeding unless his platelets fall below 20,000. With more than 80,000, he is safe. I hope his doctors figure this out soon! ...Read more

Platelet count is 272 k/uL and MPV is 7.3fL. The rest of my CBC is normal. Is my MPV too low?

Platelet count is 272 k/uL and MPV is 7.3fL. The rest of my CBC is normal. Is my MPV too low?

No: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, MPV of 7.3 per se is not a cause for concern. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

CBC showed platelet count of 118. I'm 8 weeks pregnant and bled yesterday. ER DR said threatened miscarriage. Should I see a specialist for low count?

Repeat the test: repeat CBC. One low platelet count does not indicate anything. Sometimes low platelets is related to pregnancy but it usually occurs later in pregnancy, not this early. Consult your OB. For peace of mind, you usually won't have any serious bleeding problem or need any treatment as long as your number is above 70. You do want to find out why your count is low though. ...Read more

Cbc test shows high wbc, low hematocrit, low mcv, low mch, high platelet count, low lymphocytes and monocytes - can you define these for me?

Cbc test shows high wbc, low hematocrit, low mcv, low mch, high platelet count, low lymphocytes and monocytes - can you define these for me?

Hard to say...: It sounds like it may be an infection but it's impossible to say without more information including if you have any other signs or symptoms. It is also important to know the numbers: how high is that wbc, for example. The best way to go for you is to discuss it with you doctor directly. ...Read more

My CBC test shows high wbc, low hematocrit, low mcv, low mch, high platelet count, low lymphocytes and monocytes, can you explain this to me?

My CBC test shows high wbc, low hematocrit, low mcv, low mch, high platelet count, low lymphocytes and monocytes, can you explain this to me?

No, we can't: I suspect you're iron deficient (microcytic anemia and high platelets) and I am not even going to guess on the others. This is the wrong forum to bring questions that you have a duty to ask of your personal physician. The workup needs to continue. Best wishes. ...Read more

Can you explain results of CBC test shows high wbc, low hematocrit, low mcv, low mch, high platelet count, low lymphocytes and monocytes - what does it mean?

Iron deficiency?: I'm a lab specialist. Labs mean nothing apart from a history and physical exam, and labs aren't simply "low" or "high" -- HOW low / high is key. You owe it to yourself to get with your physician. If this is iron deficiency (which I suspect, rule out thalassemia), your physician has a duty to find out whether, and WHY -- it means serious treatable illness until proved otherwise. Stay proactive. ...Read more
