Cavernous Sinus Thrombosis (Overview)

Cavernous sinus thrombosis is a formation of a blood clot within the cavernous sinus (large vein at the base of the brain). Typically related to infection, but may be spontaneous. The symptoms include severe headache, blurred vision and orbital swelling, double vision. Treatment depends on the reason for thrombosis and may include antibiotics in case of infection or blood thinning.
